Renaissance Festivals/Faires

Does anyone here attend their local faire/festival? Do you costume, or just go to enjoy the settings? Which one(s) do you attend?

My wife and I attend our local festival (The MN Renaissance Festival). And we both costume. Last year we went every weekend, and will very likely go every weekend this year as well.

I went once to the Sterling renaissance festival in NY. It was alright, but nothing spectacular, kind of like any other amusement park, just no rides and more corsets.

Actually, me and some family do so as well. My father and I operate a booth and work at mainly the Northern/Central California Renaissance Fairs, with the biggest events being Valhalla and Sonora(?), and some other family members do an Irish/Scottish dance gig as well, in Valhalla, Casa de Fruitcake, also in California.

Out of curiosity, even though it isn't a Ren Fair, are any people that respond planning to go to the Highland Games in Woodland, CA, this year?

Would you have a recommendation for one in California? The wife and I are thinking about travelling to another state's Fest for our anniversary (because ours doesn't start until August, and we're excited already!) We're looking at the one just outside Dallas in Texas, but suggestions are welcome.

I wish I could attend one, I have never had one near enough to my town to go, since my parents would not take me. I have been to the medieval times shows though, and throughly enjoyed them.

Florida has one or two. I believe they have one going on now, as a matter of fact, run by the same people that do the MN one.

Those are in south Florida though. North Florida and South Florida should be two different states; COMPLETELY different worlds. lol

They have quite a few all over the country, there is a good chance that there is one not too far from where you are. But if you are not old enough to go/drive yourself it might be a relatively moot issue.

I really wouldn't know, I live in MN, and MN and FL should be two totally different states. It's a good idea they are, could you imagine what a terrible state Florisota would be? Right.

How far of a drive... because it's probably really worth it.

The last time I went to a Ren Faire was when I was pregnant. I rented a costume since I didn't have anything at home to accommodate the belly. Everyone was more than delighted to say things like, "Aye, I see ye have a bun in the oven" and such. It was fun. I want to go again one of these days.

It's about 10 hours. Deerfield is just north of Fort Lauderdale and I'm in Panama City.
