First Amendment Anyone?

Postby Andialandia » Sat Feb 25, 2017 3:13 pm

Our current president, President Trump, in speeches praises the first amendment as, 'a great thing' yet he tells people to stop rioting as well as not allowing news sources into a meeting? Doesn't the first amendment say freedom of speech and public gathering? How is Trump allowed to say this? Thoughts anyone?

Key word - tells. Also destroing property is not freedom of speech.

Andialandia wrote: as well as not allowing news sources into a meeting?

Once again not freedom of speech. He is not banning them from speaking. He just banned them from attending the meeting.

Andialandia wrote:Doesn't the first amendment say freedom of speech and public gathering?

None of things mentioned have anything to do with either. Don't get me wrong you have the right to protest, but do it peacefully.

P.S. Better expand this OP before this thread gets locked

Rioting is not covered under Freedom of Speech as it involves the destruction of private property.

That is exactly because he keeps praising the First Amendement that he's doing all theses things.

The mainstream media -Fox lambaste him day and night without an ounce of objectivity (Fox have little on the other side of the scale, I admit) and it hasn't stopped since the very first day he announced running for President of USA.
Everyone not criticizing him, his administration or their ideology risk being ostracized by the leftists masses who tend to be more and more violent.

More and more violent like the riots you talk about. Theses are not peaceful protests, people are injured and things are being burnt/destroyed by bums, paid protesters and anarchists who completely discredit anyone who wants to incite dialogue and speech between the 2 sides.
Protecting public peace and order is also a Duty of the elected representatives so everyone can benefit from a safe country.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The President is entitled to an opinion and I'm pretty sure that rioting is not protected speech under the 1st Amendment.

Can you write or revise a better OP?

Anyways, he called the free press "the enemy of the people." What's next, ditching freedom of the press and initiating his own press?

Rioting is not peaceable assembly

Press conferences are not public gatherings.

This isn't a matter of political correctness. This is a matter of Trump silencing the media so they'll stop speaking out against him. This is a matter of freedom of speech.

I agree with you on rioting, but not about press conferences. The press is supposed to represent the public when they are sitting and listening to Sean Spicer. Listening to a politician speak is the definition of a public gathering.

It's called Breitbart. But the ammendment in question is the one that lets Bannon and Trump whisper their agendas in each others' ears...

But, more relevantly, you can ban press from your property, the same way you can ban me from your property. And these riots are violent-the First Ammendment's kind of irrelevant.
I decided I don't want to post anything in my signature. So you won't learn my political views, personal information, or stuff about my nation here. Deal with it.
