Postby Berdmayun » Wed Feb 22, 2017 5:34 pm

Hello all lovely people of nation states, I would like to pose a question, and perhaps receive an answer, Who and is and why is a person of importance your favorite political leader!

Example: I like Theodore Roosevelt beacause of his single handed group of guys the rode into Cuba and caused a ruckus!

AND Franklin Delinor Roosevelt for his role and involvement in WWII

Thank you to those who find the time to share with me this info :P

(Edit: sorry about my fact error, literally merged both roosevelts lives, hehe oops.)

None.
They all had their flaws and pros, but I'm not really into having a favourite leader in history or whatnot.
Take Lenin for example: He had a good idea and attitude to life, but his actions led to Stalin and the Great Purges. Stalin did some good, but a lot of bad.

Seleucus I Nicator. Actual military genius, and also a bloody great administrator, political operator, propagandist, diplomat, etc. Also pretty merciful (as far as the period went), had some pretty far sighted cultural/religious policies, (apparently) a hatred of paperwork, and perhaps one of history's absolute best comeback/underdog/Rocky-Balboa-inspiration stories.

/semi-serious answer.
I used to run an alliance, and a region. Not that it matters now.

António de Oliveira Salazar. He established a stable government and brought order to Portugal in a time of great chaos and turmoil.

Augustus Caesar.

Saved Rome from being split in two, conquered new territories, established a permanent military and generally brought order into a world of chaos.

Two figures come to mind.

Adolf Hitler-Yes, he was a despicable man, but he turned Germany from a economically-bankrupt democracy to an empire on the cusp of world domination within twenty years of assuming power. He was a gifted orator who rallied people to live under the swastika.

Winston Churchill-While he deserves to be criticized for his treatment of the Indian subcontinent, his oratory gift enabled him to keep Britain's spirits up during the Blitz and kept hope of victory alive.

In terms of the former, it's worth noting that Germany's economic miracle was largely due to the efforts of a man by the name of Hjalmar Schacht, who was Minister of Economics and President of the Reichsbank under Hitler (at least until 1939, when they had a falling out over military policy). Hitler actually gave very little concern to economics, and is generally given far more credit for the German economy's rapid recovery than he deserves.

You're thinking of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt was President in the Early 20th Century

Thomas Jefferson. Doubled U.S. size and reformed the economy towards American Minarchy (died in 1860, RIP). He was also one of the independence signers and his speeches quite enlighten me. People like him should appear more often.

FDR wasn't from Rough Riders nor invaded Cuba. I think he meant to say WWI.

Calvin Coolidge. He may not be famous or responsible for winnng a war, but he valued freedom and limited government. He believed that anything more than the absolute necessity of taxes was "legalized robery" He shot down a lot of Statist bills and removed many harmful laws from existence. He was a Christian, a Libertarian, and a good president. He was basically the Ron Paul of that time.
