I was reading the religious communitarian thread, and there was a brief section that mentioned that an average, middle class American would be able to buy a small army in, say, Somalia.

I will most likely inherit $500,000 - $1,000,000 USD from my father when he croaks. Assuming I save approximately half of the money, how much territory could I turn into a Holy Empire? Tell her straight up that you are transfering. Don't make it a choice. Make it your decision. If she scoffs or threatens to not assist, then get another job or borrow more... do whatever you have to and get thee to UNCA!

I'd say independence comes from not only paying your own way, but also showing you can take care of yourself and have the maturity to make it out on your own.
