Indeed. It is not debatable that sexual abuse of children occurred during the Greek and roman periods (there is insufficient evidence to know if it happened more then than today). It is debatable that it was widely practiced or that it was seen as acceptable by most people. Religious rituals hardly count and neither do "rites of passage" or other social rituals. While wrong by the standards of today (and perhaps factually inaccurate given that most accounts of such were written by the enemies of the peoples described) this is a totally different type of thing then a pedophile harming a child simply to fulfill his or her desire. And what we draw. There are a certain number of women who really really like kids and are physically affectionate with them. They don't grope their genitals, but they're clearly very excited to be around children, especially young children. This is considered socially acceptable; anything short of genital-groping, including "friendly" pats on the butt [most sexualized part of the body vis-a-vis straight women, according to the survey], big hugs, et cetera, even if the kid squirms a little and seems a little uncomfortable with it.

Are you really unable to tell the difference between displays of non sexual physical affection and sexual conduct? This is not difficult for most people.

No one is a pedophile for sleeping with another person regardless of age (sleeping is not a sexual act) unless by sleeping with you mean having sex with in which case it depends on the age of the person who had sex with the 13 year old girl.

No a woman who "bubbles" over how adorable kids are is not a pedophile by doing such and neither is a male who does so.

No a 16 year old with a 15 year old girlfriend is not a pedophile.

I'm not even sure what you are trying to get at here. None of the things you listed are even controversial nor are they signs of being a pedophile.

Des-Bal, if someone says they're going to commit a crime, I agree with you. If there is a danger of a crime being committed having been verified by an admission of the person(s) committing the crime, sure.

But you can't honestly take every little slip of the tongue as an admission. I'm sure many of us have been cut off in traffic and said something to the effect of "You son of...I'll kill you!" not to mention a long stream of other explatives that I've seen some people use.

If you see someone about to commit a crime, by all means, rush to the rescue. If you hear someone scheming a plot to commit a crime, by all means, alert the authorites.
