Because people hate us. Or at least, the vocal minority do, so we have to assume most do. The most common reaction I get online is "that's sick" or "I hope you die" or "*disconnect*". The first ones actually often end up being like "well, that's ok as long as you don't do anything", but the second are too common for me to tell anyone IRL.

I failed to mention that my stats were from the united states justice department. So probably only valid for the US. Most people who were abused do not feel comfortable talking about it. Harder to measure but more significant is the proportion of adults who are pedophiles. That would give us some idea of what proportion of pedophiles actually molest children. I remember reading somewhere that when measured in a lab, a surprisingly high proportion of men (the study was done with men) have some paedophilic attraction. It was mentioned in a previous thread.

If it's by the U.S. justice department, then it might be clouded by the fact that some states would regard a 17yr old sleeping consentually with a 20yr old to be child abuse I believe and would probably include it in such statistics.

Though it is a point about some not reporting it, but 1/3 of girls being abused seems suspiciously high to me is all.

I'm not sure what else you would call having opinions drilled into you from early on in life, however I will take the advice.

And I do believe there are more of us out there than people would like to think, though I think most are nonexclusive, and probably more hebephiles, which I certainly wouldn't think of as a problem or abnormal. Though a lot of people would. I still think there are more paedophiles out there than some people would like to think.
