What is your opinion on furries?

Hey.

I've been reading the news recently when I stumbled apon an article about the furry fandom.
Reading it, I was shocked that apparently most people think they're all weird, brain-damaged perverts.

In my opinion, furries are fine. There may be a few... more extreme people that give the fandom a negative opinion (isn't there always?) but most of them just want to have fun and express themselves in a unique and intresting way.
Some of them don't even wear suits- they just read the stories, look at the art, watch the videos.

I don't know about the designation, the interest is fine I think, except when people get so absorbed they look for an alternative to reality in it...that seems to happen with anime too, they start fantasizing so much about cute cartoon girls that they actually believe they are one.

Quite a few, in fact. It's a rather popular theme in roleplay, as you might imagine.

Being a furry, I may be a tad biased. Just keep in mind that the fandom is as varied and diverse as any other fandom. We have good and bad people, strange and mundane interests, and so on.

Honestly, I don't really care. In my opinion, being a furry or not is a choice everyone can make for themselves; and seeing as being a furry harms absolutely nobody, and that furries aren't trying to pressure other people into becoming furries, the rest of us ought to respect them IMHO. One may argue that it's being "deviant", but deviant from what, exactly? You'd be surprised what kind of much weirder stuff people are into behind closed doors - including yours truly.

I was walking through a shopping centre a few months back and girl walked past me with wolf ears on her head and, after she'd walked by, a wolf's tail hanging down from her skirt. I thought it was 'different' but I wasn't shocked. She actually was pulling off the look really well. (Even with the green hair.)

As for the whole thing of people dressing up head to toe in animal costumes and, erm, doing it like they do on the Discovery Channel... then I've really no problem with that. They're consenting adults and that's their thing. I'm a curious guy so I wouldn't 100% say I'd never try it. I mean, it's probably not my thing but hey – don't knock it before you've tried it. Erm, no pun intended.

Because like a tumor, there is quite a bit of people who order artists to draw for them porn, and the artists don't care what to draw, they want a money to buy bread and water.
And because of this, like cancer, the fandom has quite a bit of perverts, and there is a lot of art about well, porn, which is bad, but there is not way to get rid of them, this is like hardcore weaboos, who say everything Japanese is superior, no one can get rid of them, but they are there ruining the image of people who love anime.

I only have an issue with furries (and any fandom in general) when they can't drop it when it's not appropriate.

Like people that are crazy into robots and want to dress up as a robot when the theme is clearly "17th century aristocracy".

Most of the art is like there, but many artists also take orders from brain dead people. Who request you know what.
