Russian ship near the coast

Postby Neuwland » Wed Feb 15, 2017 3:28 pm

http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/15/politics/ ... cut-coast/

Earlier this morning a Russian spy ship was spotted 30 miles off the coast of Connecticut the ship had intelligence equipment and missile carrying capabilities.

My thoughts on this are the following, Russia is walking all over us and undermining us as are their allies Assad, North Korea, Iran and the rest. I think we should fire a missile into the Baltic to 'test' Putin and we should send 2 spy ships to Vladivostok. And when we get caught doing it we should say "We're just visiting South Korea". This is what Russia would do, Trump hasn't done anything so far the biggest thing I've heard was from the head of the Navy saying 'We respect Russia's rights in international waters to explore we do the same thing'. Where is the condemnations where was the coast guard? In 2014 when our ships went into the Black sea to help Ukraine Russia sent fighter planes to fly over our ships, when Russia invaded Turkish air space Turkey shot them down, we need to be stronger against Russia.

And?

They are in international waters, and shit like this happens all the time. It's literally not a big deal, and certainly not worth starting an international incident over.

I wouldn't recommend trying to 'test' a hostile foreign power with the world's largest nuclear arsenal and a leader sporting a fanatical personality cult. However, I do agree that Russia has gone too far recently, and I don't think Trump's pro-Russia policies will help anything in the long run.

By the way, the 'we're just visiting South Korea' excuse would be the easiest bullshit to call since... well, ever. Putin may be insane, but he sure as hell isn't stupid.

People need to stop with the Russian fear mongering , it's a common thing to happen and the Russian submarine is in open water as to say . The Cold War is over and ended in the 90's , our fear and hate for the Russians stopped when that happened and it needs to stay that way.

It is a obvious aggressive gesture, but I do not think the US should retaliate aggressively. Russia needs to be forced to withdraw from the international community if it cannot cooperate with other countries and live in peace.

Why? Russia is still committing war crimes in Syria, remains uncooperative on matters of diplomacy with America, and apparently thinks Eastern Europe belongs to it. We shouldn't demonize an entire people or over-exaggerate the threat Russia poses, but that doesn't mean any kind of fear towards or disdain for Russia is irrational.

Russia is a problem, but we still need to be careful so as not to unnecessarily escalate things.

I disagree. Russia's politics have shifted to the right in recent years, and its goals are different today than they were in 1991. For that matter, the USSR's goals in 1991 were different than they were in 1962, and they were different then than they were in 1945.

As well they should, because we have ships (and spy planes) off their coasts too. While it's unusual for Russia to deploy spy ships near us since the end of the Cold War, it's perfectly legal for them to do so. If we want to send them a message, there are better ways for us to do so than hassling a ship operating legally.

So we should just let them do what ever they want whenever, it pisses me off the fact they helped Assad in Aleppo but this is our back yard they are screwing with.
