It's obvious what he was going to ask. This really had nothing to do with his party, or the other side, but rather attacks on Jewish people and how he was going to deal with it even if his supporters were found to be the ones guilty.

He's obviously thinking his supporters are little angels who fart rainbows, they're not.

They won't get one. Trump wasn't "mistaken", he didn't "misinterpret" something he saw on TV. He deliberately made it up to whip he supporters into a frenzy. This will continue until he can sway public opinion enough to where masses of people demand that Muslims be deported and/or interned.
