Trump is a real-estate billionaire (allegedly) and a reality TV show with literally zero political experience.

Where are the commonalities?

Well Trump does want a Mexican Muslim Trail of Tears so...

Populism, a disdain for the elite, a bigger disdain for political opponents and select minorities, a writhing hatred of the media/press, etc.

I think the Imperium of Man would have been offended, because not even the High Lords of Terra on their worst days (the Age of Apostasy in M36) were bungling things this badly right off the cuff.

For all the memes in IRL, the High Lords of Terra sure wouldn't accept Trump within a 2,000 sector radius of Holy Terra. To them, the Don would be more like Hermann von Strabb, and the divisive description one High Lord gave that bungling planetary governor I'd leave omitted from print.

OK, derailment over - sorry folks. Just had to tackle a meme.

There has been a whole bunch of people in the UK whining about "career politicians" in Parliament over the past decade or so. That they don't understand real life, that they've never had a real job. That we need "common people" in charge with "real experience".

I really hope that the past month has shown just what a fucked up idea that is. That yes - we could do with people slightly more grounded in reality - but the reason having politicians doing the politics is a good idea is that otherwise you get someone like President Trump......

This criticism doesn't really make sense. Trump isn't a "common person". He was not raised as such nor did he live his life as such.

Sam Doe might be a better example.

Andrew Puzder, Trump's Labor nominee, withdrew himself from consideration. His biggest problem was that five Republicans (Isakson, Portman, Murkowski, Collins, and Scott) had previously declared themselves iffy on the man before last night.

From article:
Andrew Puzder has withdrawn as President Donald Trump's choice for labor secretary, a dramatic decision caused by a GOP revolt that claimed the first Cabinet nominee of the new administration.

Puzder, the CEO of the company that owns the Hardee's and Carl's Jr. fast food chains, faced fierce opposition mostly from Democrats in part related to his position on labor issues as well as the fact that he employed an undocumented immigrant housekeeper.

But Republicans too had grown weary of the range of liabilities facing Puzder, and senior GOP officials informed the White House Tuesday night and Wednesday that Puzder lacked a viable path for confirmation.

The Atlantic's article on why Puzder's nomination fell apart.

If every country that isn't current paying 2% paid 2% you'd get an additional $107bn (ignoring canada that's $91bn). US spent about $600bn - so instead of contributing 68% of NATO budget US would instead contribute 61%. If we assume money across 22 sovereign states has same overhead and goes as far as money in single state and US reduced its expenses so overall readiness was constant, US would be still be contributing majority of NATO budget.

The idea that countries not contributing 2% are somehow putting NATO at risk is a fantasy, NATO's deterrence effect comes from US and will continue to come from US regardless of if other members pay 2% of their GDP - hence why NATO effectively acts as US foreign arm exerting US's soft and hard power overseas. If Russia decides to invade Lithuania, whether or not Lithuania spent additional $220m on defense will be entirely irrelevant.
