Huh not sure how that works legally since there was no conviction, how do you pardon someone who is presumed innocent?

What? No it doesn't.
Ford pardoned Nixon before Nixon had been convicted of any crime.
Edit: fuckin ninjas.

It also was one of the things that cost Ford his hopes for a successful election bid.
Many people at the time considered Ford's move a political powerplay and indication of corruption at the White House, as well as a destruction of his character. Some, even, speculated at the time that Nixon had let Ford be president in exchange of a Presidential Pardon.
I am not sure Trump would pull a pardon this time amid the scandal and repeat a Ford.

I'm all fairness to Ford however, a drawn out trial of Nixon probably would have been pretty bad for his chances in 76 anyways.

At least we know who lobbying Kellogg.
Kellogg is only the acting National Security Adviser, though.
Great, we've got frosted flakes in the White House for a while.
