In this day and age, I feel like that kind of stuff is getting to be par for the course, at least in accusations.

Also, on a more random note, but just lookin through threads I gotta say holy shit did this place get a lot less explicitly liberal.

Nope. Calgon takes your troubles away through its bubble bath.

While some may claim otherwise, it is quite well documented that all sorts of viewpoints are permitted on NS.

In Ireland, yeah. Ireland only has like six TV channels so they need to steal most of yours.

Praise be to Sky TV, Virgin Media.

That's true, but for a little while this forum at least was very caught up in the sort of New Atheist movement that had a little revival in 12-13. Eh, though you've been here a bit longer, so overall I'll defer to your judgement, but it still seems more right. Though it also just *feels* quieter.

One of the other people from Ireland I know on NS showed me some sort of RTE show that seemed to start out as a hokey children's show and turned into some sort of 90's dance party. It was way weird.

Was it old? That...might have been The Den but if it was a new thing I couldn't comment. I think Jedward had a short lived kids show, could have been that. Sounds like something they'd do.

I can't recall the title, but I remember some weird puppet-like think on the screen with an annoying theme song. I can neither confirm, nor deny The Den was that show.

May well have been one of those. I just remember him telling me about the show being on for a while, then getting some odd make over as an example of Ireland going from the 1950s to the 1990s in like a day culture wise.

Confirmation on the title: Zig and Zag.

I only remember even hearing about this show because of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bv_36P_f-w

Yeah, I think the activity level in NSG has dropped off from what it was when I first joined NS in 2010. I am not sure exactly when or why this happened.

My guess? Probably in 2013 with some seepage into 2014. Why? Well, I suggest that if you have a sizeable chunk of long term posters whose major message is "lol, stupid teen, piss off my forum" and the bulk of new posters are, yes, teens you're going to offer something that is not conducive to sustainable forum numbers. And then when you lose some of the long-term players in, roughly speaking, one fell swoop you then offer something which moves slower and has less vitality... which probably accelerates existing membership drop off and does not encourage sticking if you're just encountering the forum. However, things seem relatively stable... but we can explain this fairly simply: cyclical influxes of nations from other sites, some of whom stick around.

Just an idea. Probably wrong. Makes sense though.

NS has always had those moments, though. New people come in, the old posters complain about the quality, then the old posters disappear.

Since I joined (late 2011, with my previous nation), I have seen that exactly once. I have seen, only once, widespread antipathy to "children" (teenagers are not children, if they were the term would not exist; they're also not legally children, at least in NZ) promoted by a specific core of posters who all left at pretty much the same time. It's the timing that is the crucial thing.

Do long-time posters drift in and out and just disappear? Yes, of course. Do they complain about the new breed? Probably. Do they typically depart en masse? That I have difficulty believing.
