Aaaand in a totally unexpected twist, looks like mr. Jammeh emptied the national coffers before running away.
Earlier in the day, the African Union and United Nations published a document on behalf of these two organisations and the regional organisation, the Economic Community of West African States. In it, they pledged, among other things, to protect Jammeh’s rights “as a citizen, a party leader and a former head of state” to prevent the seizure of property belonging to him and his allies, and to ensure he can eventually return to the Gambia.

And also, Mswati III. Don't forget him.
For better or for worse, Mswati III is a hereditary monarch; he is breaching no constitution (conceding that there's not much of a constitutional process in Swaziland). In what manner does his continued hold on power compare to Mugabe's?

Eh, so Mugabe can just rewrite the Constitution to make himself an absolute monarch and it is okay then?
Sure banning elections altogether is a different method than rigging elections. But is it better?

That's not remotely my point.
Mswati III inherited power in his country from his father as part of process that's internationally recognised as legitimate; that we disapprove of how he exercises that power, or think that absolutely monarchy might be a bit past its sell-by date, doesn't inherently delegitimise his rule. Mugabe has perverted the process of achieving and maintaining power in his country, and the process is subject to international condemnation.
Swaziland has always been a hereditary monarchy; Zimbabwe used to be a democracy. The process of achieving and maintaining power within those two situations therefore isn't really comparable.
And for what it's worth, Jean Bedel Bokassa proved that unilaterally declaring yourself an absolute monarch in an African country with no tradition of monarchy doesn't really work.
