Yeah, I'm glad he's gone. May President Barrow be a force for good for the country, unlike his predecessor.

That does make it hard to maintain control. Now what? What do they do with him?

Indeed.

I hope the BBC will report this soon.

Link? Article? I don't need no ... I was in the ancient Kingdom of Mauritania a few times, very nice beaches. Not the same place, of course.

Says he is bailing, and fleeing to Mauritania. It is possible Gambia may try to prosecute him, but he will probably just settle in Zimbabwe or Sudan or some other brutal corrupt dictatorship to live out his retirement. Those governments in particular are known for protecting the worst scum of the earth, he would be right at home.

This is just a fucking roller coaster of emotions, isn't it? I mean, the US election wasn't even this stressful.

Deadline passed, and Jammeh has now flip-flopped on his original decision twice – if Jollof News was right.

And now another former ally won't even bother to defend him if ECOWAS has to go in to make Jammeh leave:

BBC News wrote:… Gambian army chief Ousman Badjie said his troops would not fight Senegalese forces should they enter into the country, AFP news agency reports.

"We are not going to involve ourselves militarily, this is a political dispute," he said. "I am not going to involve my soldiers in a stupid fight. I love my men."

Information from the Gambia is limited at present due to Jammeh’s desperate efforts to crack down on the protests, which included arbitrarily shutting down any media outlet that he thinks is hostile.

Yeah, but he is done since his army chief will not support him. So there is little he can do. I guess he is seeing if Senegal will really follow through, maybe.
I have not idea what is going through his mind, but the guy was never all there mentally.

The UN will vote later today whether to give the OK for ECOWAS military intervention to remove Yahya Jammeh by force.

This means Yahya Jammeh could get into further trouble unless he quits now: in fact, Jammeh lost many strategic supporters since flip-flopping on that one election result against him.

And Botswana has started the continental movement to switch recognition from Jammeh to Barrow – according to the BBC at 11:53, they just stopped recognising Yahya Jammeh as The Gambia's president.

It's kind of exciting to hear the African Union getting involved here.
I mean, I knew they existed, but up until now I hadn't really heard much from them.

If that story is true, then, finally. Good riddance to that guy.

I bet you he'll go down the path of that one Central African guy, hell, this guy LOOKS like a African pope or something. so I wouldn't be surprised.

The wikipedia page has this as one of it's Objective:
To promote democratic principles and institutions, popular participation and good governance.

Gambia is a member, which is presumably why they are getting involved.

In fact, Jammeh's situation isn't exactly unique, which makes me wonder why the strong response to this and no others?

Mugabe was the head of the AU from 2015 to 2016. Might have something to do with it.
