I believe his mental instability had a lot to do with his decision to leak materials. He was obviously not operating with clear judgment.

Excellent news. Manning is a hero, and I'm glad Obama recognized that the governmental torture of a trans whistleblower was unacceptable.

What exactly qualifies as torture and is the "torture" worse simply because Manning was trans? Because bringing that up on either side of the debate cheapens one's personal choice unless it is entirely relevant.

Not sure. He also pardoned General James Cartwright, who leaked information about the US role in Stuxnet and pled guilty to making false statements during the probes of the leaks.

Solitary confinement for months and months on end, threatening punishment for suicide attempts, etc. Is it torture worse because she's trans? No, that wouldn't make sense. But the fact that she's trans contributed to the treatment of her.
