Most parts of the South tend to be heavily patriotic, with Southerners making up a sizeable portion serving in the US army. It's doubtful that many (if any) parts want to secede again. Else that would be eaten up by the mainstream media. More likely people just respect Lee because of his reputation as a good general and a Southern patriot (though whether he deserves that reputation is irrelevant to me - I don't think Rommel deserves his, generals tend to be talked up based on PR).

Lee wasn't a bad guy because he took up arms against the US (who cares?) but because he was defending slavery.
Wasn't the U.S. defending slavery during the war of 1812? When Britain had dissolved slavery at that point but the U.S. maintained it? Were the soldiers of the U.S. not defending slavery?
Because if the rightful government, the United Kingdom, had won, Slavery would have been illegal.

Secession was about slavery, but the war was not, and Lee's reasons for fighting on the side of the South had more to do with a love for his home state than it did for any anti-abolition sentiment. Which is a no-brainer, nobody wants to have to shoot at their friends and family.

Why Lee and not other generals? If you want to have a regional rivalry with the North, that's one thing, but don't turn around and pretend the regionalistic trolling is actually just patriotism. I have more respect for the Southerners who admit they are trolling us. I still think it's a dumbass thing to do, but at least it's honest.

They probably figured it would be a way to strike back at that Agitator MLK, when it was originally decided. Same reason they hoisted the Confederate flag.
Because a whole bunch of foreign northern yankees came down trying to change our southern ways

As far as you know, the south won the war.

Well, when someone's ways are segregation and systemic racism I think they need a healthy dosage of "foreign yankee".
What states actually recognize Gen Lee day?

Segregation and systemic racism have permitted great advancement in many areas, i believe. We're a people destined to separate, water and oil and all that. I think Africans can run their own country, and Americans can run theirs.
I don't know what states recognize it, i know Florida does. But i'm too lazy to find out exactly.

Did you know most segregated communities collapse? Probably because telling people they have no rights because they had they audacity to have different genes works out poorly

Dude, those "Southern Ways" included owning other people. That's not something a person can reasonably defend.

Probably because Lee is one of the most well known, being the General in Chief and all. Though "General Lee day" appears to be an obscure holiday celebrated in four Southern states. To be honest, I don't give a damn about "regional rivalries," if it's a thing, then I consider it stupid.

Nazi Germany didn't have any problems with that.Gettenfeld wrote:Dude, those "Southern Ways" included owning other people. That's not something a person can reasonably defend.
