It isn't so much a matter of whether one or the other is more intellectual, but rather the method by which they choose to approach convincing the general populace: the Left-wing chooses to be more complex, whilst the Right-wing chooses to be more simple. This doesn't mean that the Left is without simplicity of course, nor the Right without complexity, mind you, but it is a Rule of Thumb I hold to.

Left-wing philosophers tend towards ridiculous complexity (ie Marx). Left-wing political leaders, on the other hand, tend to express things in simple terms since it is precisely the masses that they're gunning for.

Hegel was also ridiculously complex, for what it's worth, but I'm not sure if he would clarify as left or right wing. He had adherents all across the political spectrum, from Marx to Gentile.

It's a (series of) localized phenomenon. Rather than blaming a faceless concept of the masses, we should understand the reasons and causes behind people doing what they have.

Oh yes, there's also the problem of literally every government being actually reliant on the support of the people and democracy just being an outlet to allow support to change without guillotining half the country.

To be fair, his out-dated language wasn't out-dated when he wrote it. Also, a native German-speaker told me he was less complex in German, so translators are at least partly to blame.
