But if you remove the frequent romanticizing of the Confederacy they are quite frankly a deluded terrorist organization fighting for an unethical cause (The "state's right" that they were fighting for was the right to own another person as property, complete with the "right" to beat and rape them as the master saw fit, which is horrifyingly unethical.).

Hell, States Rights can't even really be cited as a reason. Sure, the Confederacy was looser, but the one right they didn't let the States decide on was Slavery. Which was constitutionally protected.
