Here's a proposal to my American friends, Mexico will take troublesome Texas off your hands, as long as we get to deport George "Dubya" Bush to the US.

Still there is much potential here. I think a mutually beneficial agreement could still be worked out. Would Mexico be willing instead to take Texas off our hands and arrest Bush and send him off to Hague to face a war crimes tribunal?

Texas without a doubt. Texas is primarily self-sufficient, from what I saw the last time I went like 5 years ago. However Isolating themselves would be suicide since I think Texas accounts for a huge amount of American exports.

This, they're pretty much unified over there, and can work towards a common goal, don't tolerate crime, good education, rich to poor gap is absolutely amazing, only down side is they have to spend millions to irrigate the place.

Which state do you think could last the longest using its own industrial power, funding, and land?

One of my guesses would be Washington state, because they are connected to the ocean, do fairly well in times of economic trouble, and have good business and education.

I would say the least likely is California, as they go bankrupt quite a bit, have terrible education, and their oceans wouldn't supply much food.


Remember, this is if they COULDN'T get funding from outside land. This is a secession scenario, assuming the U.S. or someone else didn't stop the secession.

HAWAII was surviving on it's own long before it became a territory...

now... we probably will have a rough patch as we have to rebuild our agriculture... but if trade is still allowed... we might still survive.

What I find funny and ironic about Texas is that they declared independence from Mexico in 1836 and then strove for 9 consecutive years to get annexed by the US until they agreed to it in 1845, thereby causing a war between the 2 nation, at Mexico's expense, and then from 1848 forward, anytime Texas did not like the way something was going in the US gov't, they threatened to secede, and did once, and continue to do that to this day. That state's got to pick a side, does it want to be independent or part of the US? It can't have the best of both worlds, especially since Hannah Montana is from Tennessee...

Alaska? Alaska is a welfare state that receives $1.84 in returns from the Federal government for every dollar that is paid in federal taxes. Alaska is dependent on the support of the taxpayers of the other 49 states. It could not survive without the money coming in from a US Federal government.

Probably a toss-up between California and Texas...

TEXAS, Cali is too dependent on other Americans (rich ones) moving there, and the debt they are in would cripple them, Texas is far more stable, and could defend itself in war if it needed.

California has the resources, it just has a lousy government, too many people and a penchant for waste and bandaid solutions to problems. If you could overhaul the government, kick out about half the people (especially those living in LaLa Land) and convince the rest to live responsibly, you might have something.

At this point, there is no state in the Union that isn't financially distressed and I seriously doubt any of them could make it on their own, although I understand that North Dakota isn't doing too badly right now.

I'd also say California if they somehow were able to meander their way out of their huge debt problems.
