Patents are fairly straightforwards, in my opinion. Don't know about copyright, considering it's protections aren't as "absolute".
Though patents also heavily rely on your phrasing. One word can drastically change the scope of your protection, in a way. At least that's what I gathered from my course on intellectual property.
