Weird odd how it honestly feels like New Zealand should be closer to Australia in my mind, so I went "GMT +12:00?"

Yup.

Still don't make sense, I live four hours behind that- oh wait, daylight time, I noticed that on the Wikipedia page.

So.... there you go.

eHarmony, I think that trying to suggest that if you use another dating site, you'll end up dating a boar, is a bit of a stretch.

True, true.

Honestly, for most kids at least, I think the point of "Be at least somewhat thankful to your parents; they probably took your vomit when you were a kid. Quite literally so." is a pretty apt point to bear.

But aren't they doing really well with that whole mining thing, though?

I mean okay, they're pretty terrible in their treatment of refugees seeking asylum.

And they haven't legalised same sex marriage. And have an extremely religious party as half of the government. And have a none-neat number of years for terms (Three years what the fuuuuuuck (For parliament but still, the prime minister's IS a part of parliament))

Well it's either that or waste time watching some 20 something woman with a 480p webcam stick things inside the Pink Cave of Despair and Destitution whilst conning middle aged men into buying her shit from an Amazon Wishlist because one was dumb enough to think clicking on the Tinder bot link would be worth the fulfillment of one's curiosity.

Were. China's slow-motion economic meltdown is having knock on effects because all those precious mineral resources aren't being brought in the same quantities as they were before.

We have three year terms too.

Ah. Okay then.

And I mean, I was being facetious (Not obvious, I know); an economy reliant on mining is going to be inevitably volatile, much like an economy on tourism or one based on importing sexy Ryans, a la Canada.

The only good thing that happened for me this year was my state's governor loosing his re-election attempt.

Otherwise it's been pretty crap for me.

Ah, alright then.

Clarification is appreciated towards why the difference is so wide. I guess.

It still feels flimsy since a lot of what exists in modern culture exists based, in some manner or another, on past culture, much like how most of the technical innovations today come from technical innovations of the past, but ahhhhhhh Mickey Mouse.

No idea. I think patent protection is more stringent. Copyright protects the creation/concept but not how the concept is worked out, I think, so variations are permitted. Even though Mickey Mouse is copyrighted, it doesn't prohibit people from putting a talking mouse in their works.
A patent prohibits anyone from making something remotely similar (e.g. drug containing active element X), if it is phrased properly.

Patents are short to avoid monopolies on an invention, that much I know.

Well, yeah... the feeling does seem to generally be that life seems to just have gone down south by the looks of it.

Not much that can be done for that, sadly. Except maybe booze, but I'm not a drinker so I can't join. :P

Well... I guess that's true enough, though I think at least working off of the concept/creation itself is forbidden if it is money making or, at the least, it's implied as such; the idea itself can't be copyrighted, but all the details pertaining to the world certainly can be.

Patents are fairly straightforward, in my opinion. Don't know about copyright, considering its protections aren't as "absolute".

Though patents also heavily rely on your phrasing. One word can drastically change the scope of your protection, in a way. At least that's what I gathered from my course on intellectual property.
