I don't understand the "hur 2016 was such a horrible year" meme. Every year has horrible bits to it. 2017 is probably going to have things just as bad happen in it and people will be crying "oh this was the worst year yet!" at the end again. Eugh.

True, true. I'm surprised we don't see more of "I'M LITERALLY CRYING XDDD" on this site.

Because the wrong candidate won ∴ this year is shittier than the Holocaust, Mongol Conquests, the Black Death, World War II and the Three Kingdoms War.

As on opening to 2017, I have decided to give up on trying to plant and maintain live plants inside my house. It is clear that I do not have what some refer to as ''a green thumb''. I kill plants. They just do not flourish inside my house, no matter what I do. So, in an effort to fool myself, because that is, plain and simple, what I'm doing, I have decided to DIY some paper plants. They do not require maintenance and won't die from lack of being watered so... win-win, I guess. Plus, they add a nice colorful touch to my room and kitchen. xD

I think the whole "WORST YEAR EVER" thing stems from it being a worst for them as a group; viscerally and the like.

I think if you were to ask them to think very deeply about which was the worst year ever, a lot of the people decrying the current year (Or the past, rather) would probably pick a year other than this one; the issue is more that most of us have lived through this year.

And a lot more bullshit happened other than the election, though obviously shit happens all the damn time and to be fair, we are very poor at gauging about how much there is relative to the past.

Awww... :P

I haven't tried to grow any plants myself, tbh; not since a bean sprout plant thing from like waaaay back.

One of our classes actually involved what is called a rain garden (It's a water filtration thing involving plants and appropriate sands and such and mine did... kinda well, to my surprise from all the hectic construction I had worked towards it) and I had initially wanted to bring back the plant I placed inside since... well, it was just a full grown plant because I saw everyone else cut the plants (Which I did as well), leaving the rest of it to just be left behind and noticed someone having yanked a plant out and left it there, so out of desperation, that plant became mine for those few hours.

I figured, though, that I wouldn't do a good job of taking care of it out of the fact that I have NO clue what it even is nor how to take care of it.

Yay. :)

But yeah, I guess I instinctively felt the need to explain why the mentality is as it is (Though I imagine you like me more for that last point), because I belong to that general mindset of the folks who are probably more likely to overexaggerate about these things (Using tumblr, am in my late teens, uses the Internet like it's coffee (kinda), etc.)

Oh, I'm sure everybody is perfectly aware that the vast majority are only being dramatic and don't truly believe it to be the worst year ever. You start learning world history at around six after all, you'd have to be immensely self-involved to actually truly believe the hyperbole.

It's just that the hyperbole has become hyperbolic in itself. As an old grouch, I disapprove. Reign it in, stiff upper lip, etc etc.

I tried. Kept an aloe plant for a few months but it died on me. My mother-in-law also gave me another plant (can't recall the name now) and it lasted, at most, a year before it too died. I tried to grow a Venus flytrap but Jeebus, those things are hard to get going and it died quickly, while still rather small. Tried to grow a small cactus, with similar results. :p
