My nightmares are typically about me violating rules. However, I had a nightmare where my older brother killed a little girl because he was bored.

I noped my way out of that dream with haste.

The dream was especially terrifying because I have strong RL suspicions that my older brother has Antisocial Personality Disorder.

And when I went back to sleep (as I was feeling terrible) I remember having another dream that was not scary but very outlandish. I remember boarding an airplane (among other things) and then taking control of it through some kind of telepathic powers. Then I started flying very recklessly, and eventually my airplane stalled. I tried getting it back to normal, but it was too late, so I jumped out of it shortly before it crashed. I fell into some kind of a lake or a sea that was huge and I was right in the middle of it. I started swimming towards the beach that was pretty far away and my clothes were slowing me down. Then I saw a group of people who were approaching me, and it seems that they had decided to swim across the whole lake. I tried telling them something, but my mouth was full of water.
Huh!

Well, the third point might be for his age, who knows....?

The fourth is somewhat a part of human nature, I imagine; push towards the happy, away from nothing happening, but yeah; if it's a cornerstone of his life, then... that's a bit of an issue.

The first two definitely seem to fit into that point, though; that he doesn't really have regard for other people in general.

But aren't most adolescents primarily motivated by ethical concerns?

But... well, I mean they're probably not outwardly concerned with it. I'd imagine that a sense of morality exists, just not outwardly.

Since we're on the topic of disturbing and vivid dreams, I've got two for you that have stuck with me.

I was dating this dark-haired woman, and we were sitting in our living room watching TV. Suddenly, a bunch of guys bust through the door with guns, I get hit upside the head and then held down into the puffy carpet. They take my SO and hold her down in front of me, pressing her face into the same carpet so we're just inches from each other. She's crying, I'm crying, and then one of the guys places the barrel of his gun against her head, and pulls the trigger. I woke up.

I was a General upon a hill overlooking a city. From what I could gather, we must've been Romans judging by our armour. The city was on fire from our assault, and I had apparently ordered the gates to be blocked so the people within couldn't escape. After the fire had died down, I, and several of my troop, went walking through the streets. Rubble was everywhere, burnt bodies in twisted fashion, and the stench of burnt flesh. I stumbled on the body of a mother cradling her child. And then I woke up.

I use the /sarcasm tag for facetiousness. I use the /sincerity tag for non-facetiousness.

Also, I find the second part of your statement quite odd. Why wouldn't most adolescents be concerned with ethics?

Teenagers are generally sluggish, selfish monsters who only care about what they want, and do things without any forethought over their consequence while wrestling with what kind of identity they want for themselves. I should know, I was a teen once. That behaviour sorts itself out as you get older.

Noted.

And I meant outwardly; I guess a sense of ethics still exists, but it's not generally expressed.

Sometimes, it may be present, but it's also very dependent on circumstance as opposed to some sense of a principle.

It's a neurological thing. Puberty is a time of transition which is really hard on the whole body of the child, which is why the brain appears to go into a more sociopathic mode in order to deal with all the biological stress.

It sounds like you need to lay off the Call of Duty for a bit. :P

More seriously, a world of a difference exists between having a dream about it and not being totally in control of the events playing out and between having it be in real life and playing out physically and aurally as opposed to simply mentally.

As a child I used to be scared of nightmares. Now that I'm older, there are sometimes dreams that easily can be categorized as nightmares, but I do not feel them as such when I dream them. Kinda weird, but what can you do? They're dreams, after all. It's an inner world that you improvise whenever you're out cold.

I always had real bad nightmares, and night-terrors even, growing up as a child. Not sure if it was because of medication or what. However, I grew to be able to lividly dream in them, I'm not able to always affect my dreams, but I am at least consciously aware that they are dreams and not real. I'm guessing it was a way my brain figured out how to cope with them. Sometimes, they hit a bit closer to home. The one dream that has chilled me to this day is one where I was shot on a bridge and felt the coldness of where I had been hit, and the feeling of life leaving you. I woke up in an absolute panic, nearly convinced I'd actually been shot.
