Double post because the connection died on me just now and so I couldn't see if the request got through or not.

Sounds fun, man I wish I could live in such a place where I'm an hour away from major population centres!

Must be peaceful not being within a blast radius.

I'd actually lived for a few days in the countryside, like in a small town... though it was still pretty connected to the outside world regardless and we stayed in a hotel, but yeah; was pretty close to farms in the soil for that time as opposed to farms jacked up on hydroponics.

The thing is, it's still not terribly desolate. Lots of moderate sized cities of 40-80K, but no one big city within 30 minutes.

Nice to have opened a book for the first time in a long time. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I figure this'll be a minimum of the fifth time reading through the entire series and probably a maximum being the eighth time. I've totally lost track.

I've only read them once, but they are good books. I just pretty much never reread books.

You know I read 3-7 and cursed child as well as Beetle and the bard, did I miss much not reading the first two?

I think they are worth reading. The 2nd is probably my favorite book out of the series.

Some of the best books out there.

I . . . can't even conceive of the idea of not having reading any individual books in the series.. It's all one big story to me, you can't have the rest without the firsts. You can consider that my stamp of approval.

7 has to be my favorite. The story of Severus Snape. The reflections upon everything that's happened in the series, everything he's done. It's too damn good.

Snape is a great character, but I thought the 7th book tried too hard to be dramatic and deal with big issues. I liked how the earlier books mixed magic with the everyday, and it didn't feel so far removed from reality.

The movies are totally incomparable to the books. The books are so far superior. I think the only book-to-movie movies I've ever seen that do the books justice is the Lord of the Rings series.

Oh I know, I was just always told the first two were closest. I feel the shame I'll get them read, do my hufflepuff self some justice.

The LOTR movies were really great movies, but everyone should still read the books because there is a lot of stuff that is in the books that is not in the movies.

Well, 7 may as well been a war story. I thought it was an impressive change of pace considering the series is so kid-friendly while everyone in the series are basically adults by then.

Thinking too critically has made my enjoyment of the franchise lessen.

Though, at least I know that if I was Voldemort, I would've won 10x over.

Not the easiest of reads, but yeah, definitely worth the read. I need to go back to those books, too, I haven't read them in so long.

I'm glad the Peter Jackson axed the final chapter(s?) of the trilogy, the Shire-Saruman tangent was so weird.

The books also weren't created through undermining worker's rights, or exploiting or underpaying staff - as is the general thing with most movie studios. LOTR has a dark side that isn't just Mordor.
