Anyways, anyone have any recommendations for places to visit in Manila? I've been going to the national museums, and they have given me an enlightened appreciation for my culture, but going to Rizal park, taking the LRT, visiting a hospital, and walking through the impoverished streets really gives a better feel for the city overall.

they shouldn't have almost done that, you know

in any case, you can always go to a bro-- i mean, to the scores of malls littering the metro
it's not as dreadfully poor as some of the places you've gone on to, but should you find yourself a perch to observe people from, depending on the mall you choose to hang out, the humanity you can then observe will surely be more eclectic than would be the case in most of the other locations you've been to

Yeah, they used the Anti-voyeurism act of 2009 as written in RA 9995, but looking it up now, it's absolute nonsense. Only covers unconsensual recordings of individuals, which I decidedly did not do taking pictures of a police hut. Still, should probably be glad that they were only tourist police, and that nothing worse happened beyond me being lectured. Like seriously, the absolute gall of them to ask me if I was a pure-blooded Filipino! What does it matter if I am?

Good idea on visiting malls actually. A commentary on the materialistic consumerist culture of the Philippines, the death of organic public spaces, and the slow but steady takeover of the country by private entities should add greatly to my writing. Plus, I've already been observing malls regularly anyways, so looking into the more seedier ones around Manila like Divisoria and 168 should prove useful, and SM Manila in particular will provide a good contrast to the rest of the higher-end malls. Just need to take precautions in order to avoid being pickpocketed, which shouldn't be too difficult considering my dressing style and how I carry little going out, as well as figuring out commuting and making free time. Still, would be nice to go visit a brothel, but money, being late at night, and having to uphold my school's reputation unfortunately delays this aspiration by a few years.

Lol they've been doing that for years now. They don't even give a shit if you explain to them what voyeurism means. Anti-voyeurism covers non-consensual recording of people getting it busy not fucking cops on patrol. Again, cops are bastards.

Wouldn't disagree there. They're just a way for the government to extend their overbearing reach, after all. Laws don't matter unless they can catch you to fill their quotas and lord over their authority. If they're not paying attention or don't care (or hey, if you're just plain rich), you can break the law all you want. In a country with corruption abound, it's no surprise that the police are just as rotten. Still, even with such a state of affairs, it always amazes me how undisciplined Filipinos are, their clear disregard for even basic rules when they litter and jaywalk. The roots are an emblematic symbol of the disease spread throughout the society it inhibits, I suppose.

Well, the killings haven't stopped, certainly. Users and low-level pushers are still being pursued over drug lords and kingpins, after all, they're the "dregs of society". Our last national police chief resigned three weeks ahead of retirement over his involvement with illegal drugs a few weeks back. Duterte's now challenging the VP to solve the drug problem in six months, something he couldn't do in three years. And public support for the drug war remains as strong as ever.

So yeah, the drug war is chugging along just fine. Business as usual, really.

Lucky Chinatown in Binondo is also very good, as well as the ones here in Makati; Greenbelt, Glorrieta, and Ayala Circuit to name a few.

Or, if you want a really photogenic one, go to the Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig.

They probably asked you if u were Filipino because of the risk of beating a foreign citizen up triggering an international crisis. They can get away with brutality against normal citizens though

It's absolutely amazing. Dutuerte can be out here massacring thousands of people and the filipino people as a majority haven't yet said "damn, maybe this guy is insane and we gotta save ourselves from this bullshit." Nah, they're still supporting the drug war as a majority while everyone from men to women to kids are killed. You know who hasn't died yet? Someone rich. You said that you are Puerto-Rican Lebanese right?

That's almost being Filipino Culturally minus Spanish language proficiency (We lost Spanish language proficiency except for Chavacanos who still speak a Spanish-Creole, if Asigna were here, he could talk to you in Chavacano and I'd like to observe how Puerto Rican Spanish would communicate to a Chavacano), Lebanon was Christianized from Islam by the French the same way 2/3rds of the Philippines (Mindanao and Manila) was Muslim before the Spanish Christianized it. And both Puerto Rico and the Philippines were sold to America too.

How is the financial crisis in Puerto Rico?

One famous actor here, I think his name is Derick Monasterio is half Puerto Rican and half Filipino, same as Garry Valenciano the singer.

Bruno Mars the famous American singer is also half-Puerto Rican and half-Filipino.

I wouldn't say the Spanish christianized Puerto rico as much as the philippines, mainly because the filipinos are still the native people of their nation and simply were hispanicized while Puerto Rican people are majority Spanish in heritage.

Also the French didn't Christianize lebanon. Lebanese Christians are indigenous to the country and were there going all the way back to Roman times. Other people became Muslim and were arabized but most Lebanese Christians were just people who never became muslims. Also almost all Lebanese people are genetically the same and differ based on religion and language. Lebanon is lebanon. And bruno mars is why I'm all for race mixing, because it produces people like that in appearance

My brother ran as a politician in the last election under the opposition party, he lost because of rampant vote buying, the Dutertards know how to use force and intrigue. How's Puerto Rico these days? Have you guys recovered from the mega Hurrican that recently destroyed Puerto Rico?

Define recover. Puerto Rico just overthrew governor morello because of his embezzlement of hurricane disaster relief and lack of regard for the lives of people down there. Still the island is in a poor state

I believe he has a stronghold of the military with retired military officials in his cabinet and also solidified his local base in the recent elections. There's also a large social media "army" propagating fake news and propaganda.

I'm shocked anyone still supports him but then again, around 35% of Americans will always support trump so I guess anyone can have a support base anywhere

Gotta have a little bit of darkness within you just to survive. You gotta stoop low everyday it seems like. Stoop all the way down to the devil in these times. And then one day you look in the mirror and you realize that you ain't you anymore. You're just another monster, and thanks to your actions, someone else will eventually become as warped and twisted as you. Never forget that the best of us are just the best of a bad lot. Being at the top of a pile of feces doesn't make you anything but shit like the rest. Never forget that.

Well actually 15% of Filipinos have Hispanic descent however it's mostly from Mestizos or Mullatoes from Mexico or Peru instead of direct from Spain...

The first census in the Philippines was founded in 1591, based on tributes collected. The tributes count the total founding population of Spanish-Philippines as 667,612 people,[11] of which: 20,000 were Chinese migrant traders,[12] at different times: around 16,500 individuals were Latino soldier-colonists who were cumulatively sent from Peru and Mexico and they were shipped to the Philippines annually,[13] 3,000 were Japanese residents,[14] and 600 were pure Spaniards from Europe,[15] there was also a large but unknown number of Indian Filipinos, the rest of the population were Malays and Negritos. Thus, with merely 667,612 people, during this era, the Philippines was among the most sparsely populated lands in Asia. In contrast, Japan during that era (the 1500s) already had a population of 8 Million or Mexico had a population of 4 million, which was huge compared to the Philippine's mere 600,000. In 1600, the method of population counting was revamped by the Spanish officials, who then based the counting of the population through church records. In 1798, the population of Luzon or Luconia was estimated to be around 600,000 with the other islands, unknown. 200,000 of the 600,000 population were of mixed-raced descent of either Spanish, Chinese or Latin-American admixture. 5000 enlisted soldiers on that year, were of South American descent, while 2500 were pure Spanish officers. There were also 20,000 new Chinese migrants.

Still, most of the Philippines is either Southeast or East Asian.

Still it was monumental feat to Christianize the Philippines akin to the efforts expounded on the Crusades. The Philippines for a long time was the lone Roman Catholic nation in the Orient with a hostile Buddhist China and Japan to the West and North and a hostile Muslim Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia to the Southwest, South and Southeast, and so this blood soaked archipelago is Christian by right of surviving envelopement.

Also, Lebanon is where the Phoenicians came from before Phoenicia was obliterated by invading Babylonians and Persians and then the Phoenician civilization was given to her successor state Carthage in North Africa, my Order the Order of Augustinian Recollects' patron Saint, Saint Augustine is from Carthage.

There is even an epic romance and a tale of legend becoming reality with the Augustinians, the Filipinos and the state of California...

Filipinos made reality the "Legend of Esplandia" where California was named from.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calafia

In it, the legendary place of California was named after a female Caliph who converted to Christianity, the Legend became true when the Spanish came to the Philippines converted the Muslims and Pagans to Christianity, assaulted the Sultanate of Brunei and briefly installed a pro Christian Sultan to the throne, the Sultan was descended from Sharīf ‘Alī ibn ‘Ajlān ibn Rumaithah ibn Muḥammad who himself was a direct son of Hasan ibn Ali who was the fifth Caliph of Islam. When the Spanish, Mexicans and Filipinos retreated from Brunei after the installed Sultan died as well as some their troops also did, of poisoning, the Imperial princess of Brunei the heir apparent and the daughter of Caliphs, Princess Putri left with the Spanish married a Christian Tagalog named Augustin de Legaspi and had children in the Philippines, some made it to the Americas, thus making legend a reality.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castilian_War

What's even funny is that Agustin de Legaspi named after a Christian Saint in a now a Muslim territory reversed the situation in the Philippines and turned Muslim Caliph descendant into a Christian queen and had her descendants migrate to California, making fantasy a reality.

That's dastardly he should be tried for murder. People actually died and he is just stealing money meant for dying people. My other Puerto Rican friends also said that Puerto Rico is being used as a Tax Haven and Money laundering place for the rich yet the ordinary Puerto Ricans are suffering. :(

I also loved the Movie "West Side story" I sided with the Puerto Ricans of course. XD
