Because there's tons of other better places you can visit in the Philippines.

Maybe it's just because I've lived most of my life near Manila, but the entire place absolutely bores me. There's nothing interesting about it, except perhaps the few cultural and tourist spots scattered here and there.

Also, almost everything about Manila is bad. The traffic situation, the pollution, the air quality... everything that makes an urban area bad, Manila has it all.

TL;DR: YES.

Do you mean Kennon Road? Yeah, a lot has changed these days. Buses don't use Kennon Road anymore, not that it makes the place less scarier though.

Also, travel time has significantly improved thanks to some new tollways. Now, take this with a bit of salt since I haven't been to Baguio in quite a while, but there are multiple roads going there now, and safer ones too. It now only takes 3 hours to go from Manila to Baguio, I heard.

Magandang hapon. Can we discuss people who comment on Rappler posts here? I'm getting roasted again for being contrarian and being thrown at with ad hominems. Many thanks :)

Yes, I read those all the time. The DDS are combination of flat earthers, antivaxxers, rape apologists, Marcos apologists, and the unenlightened in every sense of the word, so there is absolutely no point in trying to engage them. Once they put out ad hominems, slam that Block button at full speed.

Unpopular opinion: if the traffic were a couple hours better Manila would be a decent-ass city. There's other problems sure, but apart from traffic those ain't any worse than you elsewhere in SEA.

Jakarta's also really really bad.

Lots of problems that need fixing, just putting up more public transport options alone won't solve it. Eliminating the need for long commutes altogether goes a long way. Haven't spent a peso in commute since I got a job close to home. Imagine if the jobs weren't just clustered in several business districts - Makati, Ortigas, BGC, Eastwood, etc. - but were instead spread out over all dozen+ cities. I'd love to work in my hometown but aside from city hall there just aren't a lot of lucrative jobs available.

Also that of course. Better public transportation will go an insanely long way to improving QOL of people living in the Metro.

But also the Metro needs to be fucking obliterated down to the last road and remade into a green urban metropolis because if the traffic doesn't kill me the air pollution will.

I mean build more trains and demand for cars tanks, the only reason people buy em is cuz if you're gonna wait 4 hours anyways it may as well be in aircon instead of lining up outside a station

Been biking to and from my new work since I got hired last month. I've been sleeping more and I feel healthier. Ban cars honestly.

I'm like 2/3rds serious. Just ban private cars. The Metro is so compact that biking from one end of EDSA to another would be a breeze without cars.

Also good luck new job bruh, rooting for ya

Depends what road you're going to take. C5? Don't bother going home just sleep on the road. Marcos Highway? Better off dead. Travel WITHIN Marikina? Teodoro's ayt but he's not THAT good.

Territorial lottery. Folks think to themselves "if we were instead of the last holdouts of colonial territory, *we* would be the ones getting subsidies out the ass".
the reason it's lottery is cuz if everyone stayed with their former masters and nobody getting rich.

This game does feel like "Would X have screwed us over less" and the answer is always probably not because there's no such thing as ethical colonialism.

It ain't about ethics man, it's about resources. French guyanese live better than the rest of south america, because hey France wants to remember that they used to matter and also they're citizens and shit now so there's obligations.
And again, there's the lottery aspect: if France still had its extant territory french guyana would suck, wouldn't be better than anywhere else.
