Ironically, "smart shaming" and "being unconditionally positive about the government" spring from the same defective mentality.

People who blindly keep saying "we should give President _____'s policies a chance/there's good or wisdom in _____'s ramblings/you're just being negative and pessimistic" are often the same kind of fuckers who don't think, and hate people who think because those smart people shatter their delusions and inconveniences them and forces them to admit that they don't think, so they shame the smart ones to keep them quiet, and to validate their support for their idols.

It'll probably be locked once people stop recognizing the Philippines as an independent country and just call it Chinese Philippines (just like Hong Kong and "Chinese Taipei").

There's precedent for it, though. Fascists never get a majority without first building a coalition which they can then exploit. Remember Duterte's 16 million (16.6 to be exact)? That was 39% of the vote. Lower, in fact, than Aquino's vote share of 42% (15.2M). I believe it's the second stage of fascism where they try and build a coalition with centrists and conservatives who want to do everything they can to hold onto and gain more power - even if it means allying with somebody slightly to the left of Tojo.

Not going to touch upon international politics(because, I have very unpopular political opinions)but to be fair, we didn't know what kind of shiteshow we were inviting ourselves into. That and we're also easily tricked, convinced, ignored, and many words that are always negative no matter how much you looked at it.

Also expect democracy to slowly die as China buys out the media, opposing journalists keep getting murdered by Chinese controlled drug cartels, and even more politicians and activists who oppose China are jailed or killed.

I worry about what may happen after we transition to a federal parliamentary system post 2019. The eventuality you depict may yet happen under Arroyo.

Given his ill health, mental instability and lack of access to people outside his “advisors” I doubt Dueterte actually understands what is going on. So I do not think his intent is relevant.
He very well might just be ignorant or senile rather than lying. Does he even know what is going on? Does he even understand the deal selling the SCS to China? I doubt it. He probably thinks the Philippines is still in control and he saved it. In his delusional fantasy that is the case, and his delusions are his reality.

People like GMA tell him what he wants to hear while simultaneously asset stripping the Philippines of all that is valuable.

Sure the Constitutions protects you somewhat, although it hardly actually protects the opposition and journalists from harassment, jail and murder. Unfortunately many of its protections are uneforced.

And as you point out GMA and China will write you a new constitution anyways.

I have been reading some of the few last posts and it seems some here are saying that the Filipino Pres. kowtowed to China when it comes to those Shoals which are close to the Philippines. In reality, the sea borders should have been agreed to a long time ago. The more this is dragged on, the more China wins since it gives them the needed time to build up there naval forces. Found out today was the last day for Taiwan's military exercises on one of the islands it controls in the South China Seas. They say the US had some military exercises in the Pacific yesterday.
