Yeah, and that means I'll need to improve on my survival skills.

Folks voted full well knowing what Duterte wanted to do, it was part of the appeal. I mean you'd have had to have been really dim to have voted for Duterte and not expected violence.
Not that I should speak so ill of my mother.

Hatred of drunken fun and LGBT rights are right wing positions these days? Whoa.Kovacna wrote:Kubra wrote: If a caudillo doesn't off a few people, is he really a caudillo?

To think that I only decided to go against Duterte at first due to suspicions of communism and now turning into a supporter who condones authoritarianism, I look like I supported Duterte. Had I known that Duterte was more of a right-wing populist, I would have certainly supported him since election period. I did expect violence, of course.

aw you can be left wing and do that
shit man ima run on a platform of "get off my lawn".
I mean, when it's a position that runs counter to the good ol' catholic church, a still popular church and pretty traditional sort of place, it's not exactly right wing populist in context, innit?

Kovacna wrote:Right-Wing Populism (RWP) doesn't have any religious boundaries; they don't have to support a certain religious body. It's more ethnocentric and anti-elitist, while it maintains the vital elements of the right wing such as patriotism, national security and anti-socialism. Compare these platforms:
Geert Wilders (PVV) [Netherlands] - patriotism, national security and anti-socialism (+ LGBT rights and social liberalism)
Marine Le Pen (FN) [France] - patriotism, national security and anti-socialism (+ protectionist economic policy and pro-choice policies)
Nigel Farage (UKIP) [UK] - patriotism, national security and anti-socialism (+ euroscepticism and economic liberalism)
Donald Trump (GOP) [USA] - patriotism, national security and anti-socialism (+ protectionist economic policy and social conservatism)
Rodrigo Duterte (PDP-LABAN) [Philippines] - patriotism, national security and anti-socialism (+ national conservatism and independent foreign policy)
Note that not all RWP parties are socially conservative. The political spectrum has 2 axes: one on the economic scale and the other on the socio-cultural scale.
Franco isn't relevant in the discussion.
