Strangely enough I'm opposed to modernization simply bcoz the new units are more like minibuses than jeepneys.

These aren't jeepneys.

Tbh, it couldn't be helped that something like Marawi would break out the way it did.

Close enough. I do wish they'd allow those to be painted over and individualized like the ones they're replacing. It'll do wonders for tourism, for starters.

Apparently giving up the bloody spear meant progressing from Ahab dead ringer to a Tokugawa simulation. So who'll be playing the Dutch in this scenario if ever Duterte puts his foot in his boot?

I was hoping for a Commodore Perry scenario at the end, though.

Why? It can't be poverty alone, right? Vietnam for example does well. They even have a Fields medalist.

Regardless of why that happened how do you think this can be improved? I mean it's not that Austronesians are genetically not equipped to do science. For example Taiwan has some Austronesian ancestry and they can do STEM.

Lack of public investment in STEM would be a start. The field is very underappreciated enough as it is - moreso here in the Philippines. If you're not going for medicine, it's not seen as a very profitable option to go for a career in the hard sciences.

We don't really excel in much except being a dick to each other and being a dick to people we play online games with.

Tbf, people don't generally have an interest in the hard sciences beyond "okay, that's interesting". Growing that interest through instilling a better appreciation for them in school might help.

Any thoughts on the liberation of Marawi and the Syrian capital that's been under siege?

A little late to the party there, lol.

But yeah, good on them for liberating those respective cities, but there's still work to do such as rehabilitation and long-term security of the area from any terrorists that have yet to come out of their foxholes.

I understand. People have to start from somewhere though. So what level of calculus does your universities and colleges teach?

BTW you said that medicine is a good profession. What about engineering and computer science?

Depends on where you go, really. There's a fair level of investment in medicine because, well, people see it as a "profitable" degree to have - same with engineering and the computer sciences/computer engineering/information tech. So, unless your family's pretty well off, if you go to the hard sciences you're not going to be having a lot of money for a long time.

I honestly wouldn't know about calculus. I took a degree in the humanities/liberal arts, so, yeah.

Oh boy. Duts changing his target from the Americans, to the EU, to the Church.

Plus now he says he knows secrets about Kian's deaths but this is from the same guy that said that someone he doesn't like(and vice versa)had offshore accounts and admitted to lie about said bank accounts.

I know some of us are Pro-Duterte supporters but now I wish I could drink my sorrows away and forget about these news.

Any mind that Trump is here?

I don't. If anything I'm scared of having Trump in the Philippines seeing as how aggressive we get at things and people we don't like(and we don't like a lot of things. A LOT.)

Of course this is my usual I-hate-my-kind talking to me and I know I can have support from you guys changing my mind and being able to gomto sleep.
