In other news, I've decided to embrace Ahmadiyya. I may have my disagreements with the Jama'at, but I see in Ahmadiyya a true vision of reformed Islam; and the moral and ethical strictures with which to live an upright life. I'll be making arrangements to visit my local Ahmadi mosque soon.

It depends on your definition of reformation. The christian Reformation was for example also originally an attempt to return to the basics of Christianity, not as an attempt to innovate upon it. Reformation in this way would also not be a bid'a, as it links directly to the source, or at least attempts to do so.

Say either lā ʾilāha ʾillā-llāh, muḥammadur-rasūlu-llāh
Or its translation There is no god but God. Muhammad is the messenger of God.
Out loud, being fully convinced that what you are saying is right.
Once that is done, you are cleansed of all your sins and become Muslim. I´d recommend reading Quran immediately, at least in the internet.

I don't think any Shia rejects these two basic principles that constitute Islamic belief.

Pretty sure Alawis, who unlike the Shia really are nearly all infidels, say the same. It's not an indication.
Saladin, before going to fight the crusaders, went on a war against the Shia. He was asked "Are you going to fight those who say "There is no God but God and Muhammad is is Messenger"? He answered: I don't want to be stabbed in the back.
Saying the words of Shahada is not a definite indication, hypocrites mentioned in the Quran still exist.

Being a hypocrite does not make you an unbeliever. I'd argue that even the most extreme takfiri salafists are still Muslim. Despite them breaking nearly every islamic rule there is, they are still believers in Allah and Muhammad. They may be bad Muslims, but they are still Muslims.

I'm aware of the Christian reformation, we all know how it ended up. My definition of reformation is an attempt to change a religion, regardless of the intentions. Alsheb, if you think that Islam needs a reformation then you think that the laws of Allah need a reformation.
If you think that that the basics of Islam were changed then you deny the words of Allah that He will keep the Quran uncorrupted until the end of times.
Thus, I see no needs of returning to the basis whatsoever, for Islam is perfect as it is. It has always been and it will always be, and besides, what do we need to change? Our basis, the five pillar of Islam, was never changed and needs no requires no reformation.

Takfir exists in the Sharia law, whether you want it or not. Sure, you have to have serious evidence for it, but you can do it.

Still, you are using a video of a community which does in fact get along with non-Muslims. There are countless other of these communities. Kurds in Syria, Tatars/Bashkirs/Chechens in Russia, Kazakhs in Kazakhstan....do I need to go on? One video is not representative of a whole community, either good or bad. Neither is appealing to emotion.
