Heh, you're going bankrupt too, but without the satisfaction of being socialist in the meantime.

The US is in no foreseeable danger of a sovereign default.

The US is also not subject to regulation by an Economic Community. Greece ISN'T going bankrupt, it's just getting pushed around by the other nations it has entered into agreements with.

Hey we slap around Mexico when they go over board on debt.

Just as well conservatives don't rack up huge debt with out of control spending and low taxes!

Greece needs to be careful, you can only sell your assets once. Austerity is needed and seems to be the direction being taken, depsite the protests.

Furthermore, It was a Conservative party in power before the current Greek Socialist Party. The Socialists are making enormous cuts to return the nation to fiscal sanity. Irony.

Ahhh yes, this was to be expected as Greece's financial status has had a long term deterioration for quite a while. Loan-financed economies tend to destroy themselves sooner rather than later, but it does seem that they are now finally starting to at least comprehend the financial reality that they are in. No, I don't think the nation will go bankrupt just like that as they have friends in the EU who would likely size more assets in return for short term financial boosts, although this is pretty much suicidal for a nation's economy.

They could either take a short term hit for a long term gain and start doing business that will give sustainable profits for the nation or they could take a short term gain for a long term hit by giving more power to the EU. And no, the EU is not a particularity charitable commission when they see an opportunity to expand their influence and power.

Which is a pittance compared to the total debt.

US government does not control the World Bank nor the IMF. And imposing sanctions on Mexico would be the only way it could compel American businesses not to invest in Mexico.

I have no doubt that the US government has a lot of influence over the Mexican government. It really shouldn't, though, except by international law or by mutual treaty.

It's funny to me, in a how Germans find the idea of bailing out Greece - funny, that in a thread about Greece and Germany, you make a crack at America.

Really, do you have America on your mind so much that on a thread about Greece's debt you just have to blurt something American out of your mouth? Does it just build up in your mind until you simply have diharria of the mouth and just let out America this and America that until your fingers get sore from typing it? Stop looking for trouble with your anti-Americanisms.

Everything the IMF does has to be approved by the United states, because the US has enough votes to block the required super majority. So yes the US can cut off Mexico from loans when it comes time to extend or renew those loans.
The US is the only country with this ability.

The world bank always has an American President by tradition.

Also both institutions are subject to the whims of the US because they use American Dollars.

and don't forget the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Consensus
where the Us treasury department, IMF, and world bank basically agreed to make ever developing country take up Reaganomics or lose their loans.
