Did you not know that you were female before you learned anything about the relevant genetics? I doubt it. Sex is determined by phenotype, not genotype. Genotype merely explains the phenotype.

I've always known I'm female, but when I was little it was simply because I thought nothing of it, and I was referred to as a girl, so I was a girl. Now I know my sex is female because of my phenotype. (Please pardon me, I got them mixed-up quite often in my biology classes.)

Genotype refers to an organism's genetic constitution - it's genes. Phenotype refers to the observable characteristics of an individual. You don't need to know anything about genes to know your sex - which should be obvious given that people were able to distinguish between the sexes long before the discovery of genes.
