The United States resembles Rome at it's lowest, just with the thin veneer of enlightened civilization hiding all the cracks.

India was quite civilized before Britain took it over and the US was never an empire.

Well, at one point we frequently overthrew Latin American government to set up ones to do our bidding and owned the Philippines as a colony. Regardless, today we still wield quite the same power as an empire and project our authority in many ways throughout the world.

He is considered such, but he wasn't. The Holy Roman Empire was a sort of revival of the Carolingian Empire, just as the Carolingian Empire was a sort of revival of the roman empire. I think in this scenario (the multiplicity of romes scenario), each "rome" sees themself as being founded by the "rome" that came before. But I may be wrong, here, idk.

In fact, the same problem with the US given the span they held to Cuba and the Philippines. Once the Philippines were made independent, the US being able to outshine the British who held onto the colonies longer is tarnished. A great military power, but not Rome.

We never absorbed those Latin American countries as provinces. The Philippines were a Spanish colony and then became a US territory and there were plans for them becoming independent in 1945, except, you know, there was that whole thing with the Japanese starting in late 1941. Having influence around the world is not the same as being an empire.
