I was told the alcohol thing was fourteen.

Or five in a private residence.

Definitely 16 for licensed premises with a meal. The age for private premises, however, is indeed five, unless you have medical supervision in an emergency, in which case there is no limit. This is a relic of the Children Act 1908, which made the provision to allow parents and doctors to use alcohol a cheap, mild anaesthetic in young children.

Yep, I think it was when a kid had a headache or fever, or something.

I proposed once to add a shot of orzechówka to the milk bottle of our neighbours' kid which was constantly crying through the night. Didn't go over very well... Guess the Brits have different standards concerning alcohol and toddlers than the Polish do... Shame though, there are great nalewki based on honey, hazelnuts or walnuts which very young children would absolutely love...

Had my first meeting with the psych yesterday - went okay I guess, have to be back in two weeks with my partner. Figured it would be better to start the transition process in Poland as there's much less gatekeeping here, and as my partner wishes to further her academic career; we might be moving around Europe a lot in the future, we're planning to move to Umeå in January, but if this falls through, we'll move to Nijmegen in July and wait until a position opens up in Umeå later, as both of us can get decent temporary jobs there. Thanks to European rules, if a medical procedure has been started, they can't really put me on a two-year waiting list anymore in another country, and Poland is apparently one of the best places in Europe to start this when you can't afford to stay in a single country for multiple years - basically due to a complete lack of protocol regarding treatment of transgender individuals.

My biggest concern are my documents - Poland is horrible in this regard, but as I have multiple citizenships it makes it even more complicated. Thanks to a new law from around 2015 or so, my Dutch documents would be the easiest to change, but I have no idea how well this carries over to the other countries. I'm sure the Poles could be forced by European legislation to recognize a Dutch mutation in the official records, but the Americans don't give a shit about European legislation, nor do they care about transgender rights under the current regime they have there - especially when it involves different countries. I've been trying to find information about how to get this sorted in a not too legally challenging manner, but haven't really found anything.

On a lighter note, I've been publicly out for about six weeks now, and living in Podhale in the rural southeast of Poland while working in Kraków - not exactly the most progressive city in the country - I had expected far less support in the community. Turns out, except for a few people, nearly everyone is either supportive, or if not, they keep their mouths shut. Also, at my work, nearly everyone is really cool about it, except for my boss and the handful of Dutch working there. My boss is not so much of a problem because I have HR completely on my side, and we're moving within the year anyways, I just had expected the Dutch to be more supportive and the Poles to be less supportive, turns out to be the other way around.

Dug up some details on insurance where I'd be able to get my HRT paid for with one caveat, I'd need to possibly deal with gatekeepers.

I have first date with girl who used to be a guy. Any recommendation to not screw this?

Heyyy guys. I've not been on NS in a very long time. Kind of had a huge personal crisis, but I think I'd like to take a step back in here, and maybe find a community.

I've come to realise that I am non-binary over a year ago. Kind-of-closeted-but-hinting-at-it for most people. Dysphoria comes and goes with me, but I mostly just don't feel safe enough yet to change anything about me, presenting more feminine, cause I don't wanna risk outing myself. I am not sure if introductions like these are how it usually goes, but I figure I'd give it a go, and maybe some people remember me or something so.

I've...hinted before to some of my family members that I am not 100% entirely a man but it's baby steps and I am worried about what happens if I take the full step out of the closet so to say.

Because it still has connotations that we're just pretending to be women in order to "trap" straight men into having sexual contact with other men.

Welcome back, both of yall.

1. Not all trans people do get upset at it, and some actually embrace the term.

2. Those that do have problems with it have problems with it because the word "trap" implies that trans people are out to 'trick' straight men. That kind of thinking has led to many people getting killed.
