He's not entirely wrong, there were natural factors at work, famine was there regardless of who was in charge (famines had been happening regularly in imperial Russia and imperial China long before the communists took over). However in Ukraine's case the Soviet government deliberately worsened the crisis in order to teach the "kulaks" a lesson. It was either feed the countryside or feed the cities (where the bolsheviks had a lot more support).

I'm pretty sure it happened because the Kulaks decided that burning their crops, destroying their stored food, and killing their farm animals was better than collectivization.

It was against the Kulaks interests for the grain to be collectivised and since Stalin refused to negotiate this was their only option since the government violated their freedoms. Instead of telling them to collectivise the grain they should of negotiated another system even if the Soviets had to pay the Kulaks money for the farms.

I'm saying that the kulaks spoiling food, while real, explains very little of Russia's agricultural problems starting from collectivisation and ending with the wall coming down. Piss poor productivity lasted quite long.
