One history teacher told me that the dome of the rock was jewish temple and was built by Soloman even though its an islamic shrine.

I wonder if he intended to say that it was built on top of the temple (or the former site of the temple)?

It was a she also i said that to her she then got mad at me correcting her and said i got a detention for my foolishness of such a thing.

You got detention for that? Nice for her to give you some free time to take a nap or read a book or whatever huh? ;)

But seriously that is insane. Teachers should use such events as opportunities for educational enrichment. All to often school serves to discourage education. Never let any institution be responsible for your education or lack of it. Study for yourself and never let a self enamored teacher stop you from learning.

Stupidest thing any teacher ever told me was:

"Anybody can become President of the United States."

Sure anybody can...Anybody who has lots of money.

With many other stipulations such as being born in the US which would mean that most people even if they were rich could never be president of the US.

I was taught by my history teacher that Hannibal went through Turkey and around that way to get to Italy. She didn't believe that he went through Spain when i told her because "there was water in the way."

I had to prove it to her by showing her a map of his route.

On Friday my Social AP class was talking about Afghanistan (again) and going over why Canada is still there. One of the reasons (given by a bloody Yank from NATO) is because nobody else has left Afghanistan, and if Canada were to leave it would lose face and might destabilize NATO. When I pointed out to him that Canada has begun to leave and will finish pulling out in 2011, his response was "I'll believe it when I see it."

It was fucking voted on LAST YEAR and is OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT POLICY that is not going to change any time soon. Did he NOT hear about the Red Eye controversy?

Yeah. i am thanking god every day because i got one of the few junior history teachers that didn't suck. also yes^ i find that hilarious. Hannibal was ultra badass. he was one of the few people who made Rome scared shitless. On a different note, i once got in an argument with my math teacher over a bunch of data points. He was trying to make us do complicated calculations to prove it was either an exponential function, or a power function. I was the only one who thought it was linear. Guess who was right  For one thing the data didn't make sense as an exponential function. the number increases at a constant rate. it did not have a real world asymptote

You know what state-adopted standardized tests told me the other day? That the Oxford comma is mandatory, and I can't teach otherwise. But haha, I already did before I knew! So... now all of my students will fail that question. But they'll fail it for DEMOCRACY.

Inaccurate information I received when I was in school

- The Rosenbergs were innocent.

- The Grapes of Wrath isn't boring

- Che Guevera was a sympathetic character and should be treated as such in history.

- Algebra will come in handy later in life.

- That's not funny

- Football is not important

God made the universe.
He was my physics and astronomy teacher this year. He had a mug on his desk that said "No Jesus, No Peace. Know Jesus, Know Peace." There was a poster up on the wall behind him showing a nebula in the shape of the cross. I think he might have a serious case of compartmentalization, because being a science teacher and being that into a deity is a bit of a contradiction. You see the vast wonders and the cold, uncarings of the universe, yet you still believe that a God singled us out and put us on this rock hurtling through space.
Now, don't get me wrong, I still look up to the guy. He's a great guy, cares about his family, cares about his students. It just perplexes me to no end how he lives with that contradiction.

And I think I just went off on a tangent.
Yeah, he said to us once that God made the universe. He technically said that God was the prime mover behind the Big Bang, which I equate to "God made the universe" because most fourteen year-olds don't understand the cosmological argument.

I think the crowning moment of stupid, at least in my experience, was during a discussion on the proposed AWB under Obama's administration for my AP US class. The teacher was saying that the ban would prevent automatic weapons from being used in violent crime. I had been listening to the entire class go along with the liberal line (Guns are bad, we can't trust people, Second amendment applies only to National Guard, etc.) that I finally spoke up and said that, because criminals are already in violation of the law, they would simply ignore the ban and get thier weapons somewhere else. I pointed out the DC handgun ban, and how DC had one of the highest murder rates for the duration of the ban. Furthermore, I asked her to define what an 'assault weapon' was. She couldn't even do that.

The definition of an assault weapon, for anyone wondering, is a semi-automatic firearm that has a detachable magazine and has certain cosmetic features in common with the military-issue versions of the firearm. Considering we were discussing the ban, she could have at least known what was banned--which, from what I saw of a similar bill, would have included the M1 Garand, AR-15, and various other rifles that have been converted to civilian use.

Now, I'm going to sit back and watch the shit storm.

Quotes of Awesome
Veblenia--I imagine it's like being the visionary that first thought of eating eggs. "See that thing that came out of the chicken's ass? Let's cook it."

Free Soviets--the intellectual culture here is interesting. we tolerate that massive diversity better than most places i've seen, but we expect you to either argue your shit or at least be funny.

Olthar--You're asking if people on NS are insane? That's like walking into a church and asking how many people are Christian.

Tokos--Yeah clearly he doesn't know Catholic dogma. You're not supposed to hate anyone. Jews are just infidel who rather spectacularly dropped the ball.

Why? You make perfectly valid points. I don't agree with you, but a rational person can see that your point is valid, if your statistic stands, that is.

Mrs. Rosenberg wasn't as guilty as her husband (IIRC, she was merely his secretary)
Whether you're conscious of it or not, you use algebra ALL THE TIME in your daily life.
