I think their grade 6 teacher missed a few crucial lessons on the difference between a country and a city.

Ahhh, the general ignorance of a lot of kids. Hell, when I went to Hawaii a few years ago my friend thought it was another country. I'm sure dozens of kids think Africa is a country. The majority of the rest of them couldn't name a country in Africa. Besides maybe Madascar though (they saw the movie ;) ).

Another good one... the first year I came to the United States my Biology Teacher went out of his way to explain how Communism is evil, he then had the balls to call me "Commie" throughout that year.

I can't fault them too much, to be honest. Geography floors a lot of people.

I've been asked where I was born, replied "London" and had Americans ask me "Oh, is that in Paris"?

I guess once you get outside your own neighbourhood, people tend to get a bit hazy on the details.

How flexible is the school you teach at with using Wikipedia as a main source in obtaining information/utilizing it in various projects?

A similar one I found was with my old French teacher when he asked his 8th Grade students where France was and got a similar response to the Japanese teacher I talked about. He got the general consensus of "France, that's in Paris, right?"

What did you expect her to say?

"Well Meldaria, when a lightning bolt superheats surrounding air to around 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit and ionizes it in its path of travel, a shock wave is created that, in turn, creates audible sound energy through all-directional sound waves."

Like a pre-schooler really could understand that--sure she could have said "lightning heats the air and makes a boom," but still, it's pre-school.

Earlier this year, My Computer Tech teacher tried to blame Kanye West's sexism on all men... The ironic thing is that makes her the sexist.

...Okay this I can draw accord with.

What a hostile school environment :( I would have recommended you start calling him comrade, sing the Internationale (english lyrics so he would understand) during the pledge, and drawing hammers and sickle on all the work you turned in but it would probably have been dangerous for you to do so.

Well... it was more than 20 years ago. Besides I got the last laugh when I got A's in his class. I did well in his class and in '91 the RSFSR collapsed, i'm sure he was laughing that day.

Well he wasn't really, he just pulled the microphone out of Taylor Swift's hand, and she had a little article about it, I was like, "Taylor Swift was interviewing him, and he pulled the mic out of her hand, that's not sexism, if the interviewer was male he would have done the same thing. *sigh* Most students couldn't tell you what communism is. 'Course, neither could I really. But I know the basic idea of it and I could name you a few communist countries, unlike other students.

Intentionally antagonizing an authority figure rather than go through the necessary and proper channels?

No, I'm going to call it exactly what it is. Fucking childish.

Excuse me, sir/mam, but relax a little. He/she was just joking around and I always have a little fun messing with teachers. You don't need to be a zombie to be smart or mature.
