Oh c'mon. He voted in favor of LGBT rights and did a lot of good stuff for their community. He slipped up a few times because he was like "well, I'm christian so personally..."

Like, yeah, whatever, that's his prerogative if he wants to be grossed out by it personally. If he allies with them in the House of Commons, which he very clearly did, I'm not gonna judge him for that.

But that's my problem. Why, if he has no issue with it politically, and if he has supported gay rights for so long politically, is he standing down now? Why, now, is his faith suddenly SO important to him that he can't ignore it any more?

And why is his faith causing him so many problems? I know a metric fuckton of Christians who personally, professionally, politically and in every other way you can imagine don't think being gay is a sin, don't use their religion to judge others, don't look down on people and basically don't behave like sanctimonious pricks just because they have an imaginary friend that was born two thousand years ago that tells them they can, so the fact that his personal feelings make him unsuitable to be leader just makes him a homophobic prick and he can fuck off.

Gee, maybe because the media made a big thing about it, the public assumed he was a homophobe and ignored his voting record, it probably partly contributed to a drop in vote share (albeit a minor factor), and because a senior Lib Dem Lord quit the party because he wouldn't step down yesterday.

Britain First leader also deliberately went to provoke muslims at a mosque helping Grenfall victims in order to make a video about how "these streets need taking back" from people who think it is a "crime to stand on a street in Britain".

Ironically, violating British parking regulations to do so.

admittedly, UK parking regulations are stupid, even with a disabled badge their are super-convenient places you can't park.

It actually makes sense in a twisted way. You just have to know that the Oktoberfest is originally an exclusive Bavarian festivity, and the Bundesland Bavaria happens to be a predominantly Roman Catholic part of Germany.

I guess it's tangentially related, but at Castlemartin live fire army range, 4 members of the Royal Tank Regiment were injured, one of whom died in hospital, in a "tank-related incident".
Castlemartin has been preparing for a large-scale live fire exercise coming up.

This seems to be putting a point onto widely publicised training fatalities in the military in recent years. Casualties are overall probably very low, but make up most of military news as of late due to it technically being peacetime.
A soldier had previously been killed at Castlemartin in 2012.

There are no real details of the incident, save for four casualties and it involved a tank.
I'd like to think the incident wasn't soldiers being run over or something similar. Two other possibilities include a light vehicle colliding with a tank, or soldiers passing in the overpressure zone of a tank gun on firing (or, potentially, being struck by errant sabot fragments of armour-piercing rounds, which can travel hundreds of metres downrange). Any of those three scenarios would be the result of negligence on the part of the soldiers involved and on commanders for allowing such a situation to occur.

I think they want the pope to be declared the antichrist, which sounds hilarious. From a religiously neutral perspective, of course.

The media reports a tank, but since this is the media, it could mean anything from a Challenger 2 to a Mastiff, tbh.

I suspect they're quoting the Army.
We are of course dealing with an incident involving the Royal Tank Regiment.

Britain's greatest field marshal wore the black beret of RTR. He could give some leadership lessons to the current government, frankly. (Although he was hard-line right wing, so . . .)

Usually when we're talking about hardline right-wing British military commanders, it's typically Fuller :P

That's not quite what happened; he didn't 'quit the party'.

Brian Paddick resigned as the party's shadow Home Secretary (he's a member of the Lords). He remains a party member.

For context, Paddick is gay, and the issue is one he understandably feels strongly about. So it's a front bench resignation on a point of principle rather than a resignation from the party as a whole.

The party's website hasn't quite caught up with events, though...

I'd be hard pressed to call Michael Carver 'Britain's greatest field marshal'. I assume you mean Carver?

In any case, the judgement's subjective - so we'll instead have to focus on objectively identifying the British field marshal with the greatest name.

Which was clearly Studholme Hodgson.

BBC Breaking says that a second soldier has now died from the incident.
Both soldiers died in medical care.

E: while the BBC is providing no details, the Telegraph is reporting the incident is believed to be an ammunition explosion. The tanks were firing practice ammunition and at least one round's propellant charge failed, and detonated, presumably inside the gun.

63 percent of Britons now have an unfavorable opinion of Theresa May. Heres to hoping for an autumn election and a Labour landslide!

I say heres to hoping, because I find the likelihood of that....slim.

Labour would be worse. For as bad as the conservatives are, Labour is currently worse.

Yes, but if "autumn" means "september" then that could be tactically timed to divide and suppress the student vote, which was clearly instrumental to Corbyn's gains in this election.

I suspect that young people may be more vulnerable to election fatigue than older voters.
Especially with the disheartening news from the YouGov polling that suggests only ~58% of voters 18-24 turned out to vote, in spite of the 72% number doing the rounds, and the 64% 18-24 turnout in the EU referendum.
