Luckily, people don't let how icky you find their consenting personal lives dictate how their countries should be run.
Damn the man! Save the Empire!

I don't want to seem rude, but what's here to celebrate? They elected a 39 y/o guy with 7 step-grand children a wife that's 24 (?) years older than him and was his teacher. Not a good moral poster boy for Europe, is it?

Many of the voters that voted for him have done so just to vote against Le Pen and it's not like he was an underdog in this race. He is a former banker, worked for the Rotschilds and god save us from what we are about to discover about him and his campaign from the recent leaks. It's kinda like Trump v. Clinton - neither are good. If anything we should be sad that the choice was between two bad candidates, because let's face it - neither of them are close to being great.

Who said we were electing a "moral poster boy"? This is France. Out of the 7 presidents that have already governed in the Fifth Republic, 1 was a womanizer, 1 had a secret family, 1 had been divorced twice and then divorced as president to marry a model, and 1 never married and was a serial cheater.

So, you worry about you, let us worry about us.

In solidarity with Ukraine, I will be censoring the letters Z and V from my signature. This is -ery much so a big change, but it should be a -ery positi-e one. -olodymyr -elensky and A-o- continue to fight for Ukraine while the Russians are still trying to e-entually make their way to Kharki-, -apori-h-hia, and Kry-yi Rih, but that will take time as they are concentrated in areas like Bakhmut, -uledar, and other areas in Donetsk. We will see Shakhtar play in the Europa League but Dynamo Kyi- already got eliminated. Shakhtar managed to play well against Florentino Pere-'s Real Madrid who feature superstars like -inicius, Ben-ema, Car-ajal, and -al-erde. Some prominent Ukrainian players that got big transfers elsewhere include Oleksander -inchenko, Illya -abarnyi, and Mykhailo Mudryk.

40% of the voters determine 100% of the vote? Sounds like an oligarchy.

What voters? They're exit polls. No votes. Exit polls.

The winner is declared at 8 pm, before the vast majority of the votes are counted. The actual tally comes later during the night, and never deviates by the exit polls by more than like a percentage point or so.

Well, I'm not that excited. It could well be that Macron will just be Hollande 2.0., and given that he was the architect of Hollande's unpopular economic policy, I don't expect anything other than more of the same. There's a good chance Macron will win the battle, but lose the war.

He's going to be more liberal. Or as liberal as he can with whatever parliament he's given and popular opposition to his policies.

Well there is some good news :)

Twitter is exploding with the happy about all this :- "France now has a reason to be condescending to America", "For the first time in a long while the French version of something has a happy ending"

I can't tell you how happy I am by all this. The idea that the far-right is being stomped down again makes me smile :)

Ugh Christ. Now what will save us from the liberal gloating. This really was a no good outcome election. Marine wins and you have to listen to the Trumpistas gloat, Macron wins and you have to hear the liberals.

Makes you miss Fillon. No one liked him.

(smile) I would hardly call one post with three paragraphs "gloating" :)

By definition, paedophilia applies to attraction towards juvenile children. So whether or not the kid's gown up makes literally all the difference.

Because they come out at 8, at the end of the media blackout. The actual results can drag into the night.

... that's one interesting way of seeing things. Especially with the loi Macron, and the loi El Khomri which he had a big hand in formulating.

He left to become president. From his first days as Hollande's economic advisor to his last day as Economy Minister, Macron was the brain behind the economic policy of this government.

Did he get everything he wanted? Of course not, due to political reasons. But was he not "heeded"? That's a stretch.
