2016 Poster Awards: Results Announced! Congratulations!

Welcome to the 2016 (NSG) Poster Awards! If you're a bit confused, these used to be held in October. I have exams in October and early November, so they're now held in November (since last year).

The general idea is that the poster awards are a fun way of acknowledging (NSG) posters for posting well and the only equivalent of a medal for winning, as such, is simply being able to put a little thing in your signature saying you won one... if you think that is something worth doing. However, as we have in the past seen players try to use the awards to bully other players (see: Sibirsky silver medal in this incarnation) if I think that is happening, I won't count the nominations. Beyond that, though, you're free to be as biased and arbitrary in your nominations as you like but I think you might get more from the exercise if you at least try to be a bit objective. Joke nominations are fine though (and, indeed, nominating capitalists for best communist or vice versa is a, er, time-honoured tradition).

Unless the thread falls off the front page, nominations will remain open until 7pm NZ Summer Time 9 December (this is 1am on 9 Dec in New York). If it falls off the front page (for a prolonged time period) I think this will be long enough we don't need to extend the nominations.

Award for Excellence in the Field of Debating

This is not for those posters who express your positions with the most skill and clarity but rather for any poster, regardless of ideology, who brings uncommon talent to bear in arguing for any ideological position. This means you're looking for non-fallacious arguments which rely on reason more than heart-strings. There are Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in this category.

Award for Excellence in Posting

Sometimes you see a poster's name in the "most recent post" bit for a thread and you click on it just to see what they wrote, because they are who they are. As the old intro to this award said: "their posts/threads amuse, enlighten, inform, inspire and make you want to participate." There are also Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in this category.

The following awards have only a single "winner".

Best New Poster - for the purposes of this award, a newcomer is anyone who joined after 5 October 2015. Posters not nations.

Drunk Commies Deleted Award for Lifetime Achievement

This is the poster whom you believe has earned your respect and is amongst the most honourable of posters. If they were to leave, their presence would be greatly missed. In memory of Drunk Commies.

Zooke Memorial Goodwill Award

The Zooke Memorial Award for High Charity and overall Kindness. So often in the hustle and bustle of the forums we become easily enraged and forget that this is only a game. Zooke helped keep us friendly and never said an offensive word to anyone. This is in memory of her. May she never be forgotten.

Keeping You Cool (KYC) Award

When a thread threatens to go down in flames, this poster remains calm and doesn't let heated tensions get to them... even when they're the target of the hostility.

Unlike last year, I will take advantage of my holidays and simply record everything at the end. This means results will take quite a bit longer to be released but there'll be less confusion around editing nominations. Just make sure you only have one nominations post.

Also, the system will work such that if you nominate a poster for Gold = 3, Silver = 2 and Bronze = 1 with the highest total score determining final placement, unless anyone has a problem with that. For single award categories it's a simple most nominations system.

Have fun and good luck. Also, feel free to discuss things related to thread (e.g. whether or not it should exist, if some categories should still exist) but I would suggest that critiquing nominations be done with caution (remember, this is meant to be a fun thread).

If you're wondering about the poll, I thought the sarcasm award would be a suitable means of memorial because Dyakovo was a joint winner in it last year. Suggestions and comments welcome. I will run this poll until 4pm 28 November my time.
