It's almost as if surveys can be lied to just as easily as the Internet.

And with that, I consider this my closer. I figure I've had enough debating practice on this site to move on to something more real, once I figure out a way to do so. What better timing to quit than at 1776 posts?

1783 posts? 1865 posts? 1945 posts?
You'd better believe I'm a bitter Bernie Sanders supporter. The Dems fucked up and fucked up hard. Hopefully they'll learn that neoliberalism and maintaining the status quo isn't the way to win this election or any other one. I doubt they will, though.

If a majority of Californians want to secede, let them. We'll all be better off because of it.

Yay! Honestly though, I cannot believe this is still a thread. There's no way this could actually happen. Unless Trump nukes Hollywood :P

Obama's popular because he's a good speaker and a decent president. Which policies that are Obama's and popular, are being killed?

I watched a news bit on that last year. You know that when you replace "Obamacare" with "Affordable Care Act", its approval goes up like 15 points?

Hmm, so what exactly the people of USA want? ACA or Obamacare?

I'd say people don't know what things are or what they do, half the time.

Like everyone's praising Donald Trump promising to keep the prohibition on discrimination for preexisting conditions, but scrapping the rest. If you scrap the mandate, but leave the preexisting condition rules, there won't BE an insurance industry in 5 years.

Depends on how you implement the details. For example, when I got insurance through a previous employer, it didn't cover pre-existing conditions for the first six months of coverage. So it would cover me if I got his by a car, but not for my (hypothetical) horrible heart problems. I've forgotten the details, but there was some requirement for disclosure of pre-existing conditions, permission to check with previous doctors, and enthusiasic penalties for fraud, mostly of the "we can cancel your coverage and then sue your sickly ass off" variety.

But as to the topic: I'm always amused by secessionist movements citing a jursidiction's economy as though everything would remain precisely as it is when they were part of another country. Even with a peaceful separation, there's no reason to expect (for example) free trade and free movement of people as there was before.

In Cali's case, there's that little treaty about Colorado River water which I suspect would go *piff*, even if Congress agreed to let them leave. Demand for that water far exceeds supply, so why would the US give some to dirty hippie ferners? :P

So, what's SoCal's economy like without water?

I fully support them leaving so we can sit back and watch them be reintegrated forcefully. It'd be beautiful having the might of the US military go against whiny liberals who scream when police touch them.

They honestly deserve it.

I mean that most of Californians don't want it. If an extreme majority of Californians wanted it, truly wanted it, we could just not work until the US gives us a Binding Independence Referendum. What's DC going to do, force us to go to work? But yeah, you're right. No matter how many times people say "an extreme majority of Californians are against it," the circle jerk will continue.

If Los Angeles wants to leave the USA we will gladly let them go their own way.

But not with Central or Northern California. Those people want to stay in the US for the most part. Only the illegal immigrant occupied south of the state centered around LA wants to secede.

Are you implying that illegal immigrants are adding to the number of people wanting to secede?
