Also secession is illegal.

It's only illegal if you don't have the strength/political will to make it so.

The law does not change just because someone manages to get away with breaking it.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Alternatively you could ask permission.

Go ahead a let them secede. Then we can give them some good 'ol Union lead, or in this case, tomahawk missiles. Of course, all of that is hyperbole because it isn't strategically needed. Nevada just needs to turn off the water and South Cal will see a catastrophic loss in agriculture. The Pacific fleet just needs to form a blockade on a "nation" with no Navy, and there goes the trade with China and Japan. Fairly soon, the Californians would call for peace. Republicans would set a healthy restoration period, say 10 years, to guarantee Republican advantage in the next two presidential elections. While they're at it, they could make North Cal a state and give the Republicans a boost in the senate.

In other words, a CalExit is stupid, irrational, and would only result in an economically ruined state joining a more conservative America.

We all need to work together for a better America. Fighting and rioting over a democratic process that didn't go your way is ridiculous, in my opinion.

All this "let them leave" reeks of pure passive aggressive edge.

It would be in any other election system.

However, since we use the Electoral College which allows for a disconnect between the winner and who got the most votes (which is what happened), there is certainly a better reason than had Trump won both (which he did not).

That is true. I do think that the Electoral College should be scrapped, and we should practice a national popular vote. However, wanting to secede is a bit extreme. I'm sure there are progressive ways to push a national popular vote for future elections, but for now, the result we have is the result we have.

He had the most name recognition, basically. Also, the fact that many people didn't know his party affiliation nor his politics in full detail helped for him to craft an image around him as a sensible politician.

Well, they were their own country once. The Republic of Texas lasted 10 years until their annexation into the US in 1845. Texan Secessionist use this as a reason for why they should be able to secede, ignorant of the fact that after Texas won its independence, they wanted to join the US right away anyway. They were afraid of a second war with Mexico, and the majority of settlers were Americans to begin with. However, the US didn't want them at the time, not wanting to start a war with Mexico, and not wanting to accept another slave state due to the Missouri Compromise. So, Texas' Republic days were just a temporary period where they continued to lobby the US for their annexation until they finally accepted.

I'd say he was okay as a governor. Although Shof may have a different opinion than me given he's a native Californian. :p

It's funny because the only other political position he's ever held in his life was Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
