The problem with people's displeasure is that we want the same country to think the way we do. Every state is different with different needs but people seem to be in the mindset that everything needs to be national or nothing. If we gave the states back a little more autonomy perhaps things would get better. NYC's gun control just won't work in rural Wyoming and people need to accept it.
That's why the US should be balkanized into more manageable segments for governments to utilize with no central bureaucracy on the East Coast in DC. What is needed in the Rust Belt won't work in the Northeast. What works in Kansas won't do in South Central LA.
