If we annex Baja, Tijuana will no longer be a foreign country. A large portion of Tijuana's economy is founded on Californians going to TJ for partying/gambling/donkey shows/non-FDA approved medical treatment/the experience of bribing a police officer. If it's the same country as California all of those industries will collapse leaving the city destitute.

The problem with people's displeasure is that we want the same country to think the way we do. Every state is different with different needs but people seem to be in the mindset that everything needs to be national or nothing. If we gave the states back a little more autonomy perhaps things would get better. NYC's gun control just won't work in rural Wyoming and people need to accept it.
