Meanwhile the campaign was the most divisive in recent history, and that was in no small due to Trump's behaviour. Trump has everything to gain by saying this, and loses nothing by doing so. It has no effect on whether he will follow through.

At this stage, there is abolsutley no convincing case to assert that it is indeed different. At best, it is rhetoric without substantiation.

You're basing this off one comment in one speech, and appearances. Its a politician's job to seem genuine - how do you think he appears to most of his supporters? There is currently no practical change from this 'feeling', and a long history detailing that it is unlikely to occur, in light his past form (which has not been atypical to his general bearing up to now). There is no substantive reason to take him at his word as of yet, and plenty of cause for scepticism.

There are entirely different notions of democracy at play (there is no one notion of what can be considered 'democratic') - and the majority of votes did not go to Clinton, a plurality did.

He won in the current system. If you don't like the system, campaign for its alteration, but I highly doubt you would be eager to point this flaw out if the positions were reversed.

I agree, but you've shown the biggest problem with the United States political system in the recent decades. Nobody wants to talk anymore. Both sides have been taking a "my way or the highway" sort of approach to issues, blocking any attempt at finding a compromise.
