Trust is very socially liberal AND economically liberal. He transformed the party to be more populist and have become a possible safe haven for the poor. Donald Trump, for better or worse, has changed the GOP forever. After this term, the GOP will be:

More socially progressive
More armed for the poor
More isolationist (previously the republican party SAID they were isolationist but look at the military budget...)
Full of tv personalities rather than politicians... I'm kind of on the fence with that one. :)

I think the GOP is terrible because of its long history of stepping on others while declaring Don't Tread On Me. Denying freedoms to those they don't like for religious reasons, while shrieking blue murder over any perceived threats to their own freedoms. For essentially giving the middle finger to the middle class and poor while handing themselves benefits, pensions, higher pay, and tax cuts for themselves and wealthy friends - while duping blue collar workers into believing their fearmongering. For systematically degrading the educational system in this country to the point where blue collar dupes form the largest constituency.

For fooling so many in believing they give one single ounce of fuck about them, right up until they have their vote. GOP is the party of the self-serving, of the privileged, and of the elite.

I was listening to the news last night, and one spokesperson for Trump said that he would appoint, "good, conservative judges", to the Supreme Court.

WTF, what about neutral and unbiased judges? Isn't impartiality the most fundamental requirement of a judge? Since when were judges allowed to let their political opinions influence their decisions? Just on this statement alone, I think Trump should not be allowed to appoint any judicial official. :meh:

GOP has always identified itself with Lincoln, but none of their policies ever reflect the values espoused by Lincoln.

Yes, and Trump alone has the indecency to talk about it in the open. Can't we at least maintain a veneer of decency in politics? >:(

I'm in the minority here but as a Christian-Socialist I hate the GOP for 3 reasons:

1. Their willingness to suck up to the 1% and completely disregard the poor in direct defiance of Christ's teachings.

2. While I agree with the pro-life positioning, they do it only half-heatedly so that they can just call themselves moral without providing aid to the struggling mother. Helping parents be able to raise the child is equally necessary to call yourself pro-life. Jimmy Carter knew this.

3. As I've laid out, their complete Hypocrisy to the teachings of Christ. They ignore the poor, destroy his earth, and (metaphorically) choose to murder the sick rather than heal.

The worst part is that due to their complete and utter butchery of Christ's teachings, Christianity is dead in the American political system.

Mr. Kasich is not the President-elect. :p

I would like to see Trump swapped with Justin Trudeau, who arguably will be a better President than Prime Minister.

I think this conversation isn't going anywhere, so let's end on the note that Lincoln, the grandfather of GOP, didn't allow states to stand in the way of a union.

Yeah, Republican politicians don't have an absolute monopoly on stupid ideas.
Venicilian: wow. Jesus hung around with everyone. boys, girls, rich, poor(mostly), sick, healthy, etc. in fact, i bet he even went up to gay people and tried to heal them so they would be straight.
The Parkus Empire: Being serious on NSG is like wearing a suit to a nude beach.
New Kereptica: Since power is changed energy over time, an increase in power would mean, in this case, an increase in energy. As energy is equivalent to mass and the density of the government is static, the volume of the government must increase.

That's vaguely encouraging.

And yes. Many of them are that bad. Or worse.

B.S. like that is far more dangerous than either the Republicans or the Democrats. Dehumanizing half of the population of the US to the extent that people view them as a "cancer" because they've completely bought into the rhetoric being spouted by the alarmists and extremists on both sides of the political spectrum can do far greater harm than any bill passed by some corrupt politician from either party.

What does Trump have to do with the GOP though? Certainly, for the vast majority of Americans who voted for Trump -- almost all of them working class mind you -- believe Trump's presidency to be a beneficial development. So they believe at least it is beneficial to them, or else why would they have mass majorly voted against their interests?
