I will second that.

It's been a very long year of very contentious and polarised debate, and even though the presidential election and its down ballot companions nears its end, there will be no end to the debates and arguments and accusations and scandals. Certainly not on this site.

But given the form much of the current debate has taken across our country, this site and these threads are a comparative oasis of reason and decorum. Comparative.

It's pretty clear that we all feel very passionately about our politics and it's just as clear that we feel so deeply out of a genuine love and concern for this nation. We all have a stake in its direction and successes, and we all have different ideas and beliefs on how best to achieve American goals. And the fact that we can argue those ideas and beliefs here, largely peaceably, is something for which I am grateful. I appreciate everyone here who cares enough to fight for the betterment of our country, even if only in text, and even when we strongly disagree.

So, cheers. And game on.

- There are long lines for voting. A waiting time of an hour is considered short.
- Politicians deliberately ensure that there are fewer polling stations in districts where most people prefer an opposing candidate
- Privacy during voting is not insured
- There is no protection against coercion

Are we*really* talking about the USA here and not some backwater dictatorship that pretends it is democratic ?
