Ack, sounds like the possible beginning of a chest infection. Binge drink water, it makes it easier to cough up the gunk and wrap up warm.

Hurdergaryp wrote:To quote the Wikipedia article about Afghanistan:

In April 1978, the communist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) seized power in Afghanistan in the Saur Revolution. Within months, opponents of the communist government launched an uprising in eastern Afghanistan that quickly expanded into a civil war waged by guerrilla mujahideen against government forces countrywide. The Pakistani government provided these rebels with covert training centers, while the Soviet Union sent thousands of military advisers to support the PDPA government. Meanwhile, increasing friction between the competing factions of the PDPA — the dominant Khalq and the more moderate Parcham — resulted in the dismissal of Parchami cabinet members and the arrest of Parchami military officers under the pretext of a Parchami coup.

In September 1979, Nur Muhammad Taraki was assassinated in a coup within the PDPA orchestrated by fellow Khalq member Hafizullah Amin, who assumed the presidency. Distrusted by the Soviets, Amin was assassinated by Soviet special forces in December 1979. A Soviet-organized government, led by Parcham's Babrak Karmal but inclusive of both factions, filled the vacuum. Soviet troops were deployed to stabilize Afghanistan under Karmal in more substantial numbers, although the Soviet government did not expect to do most of the fighting in Afghanistan. As a result, however, the Soviets were now directly involved in what had been a domestic war in Afghanistan.

Yes, that is one view of the event.

I'm trying to find where the invasion didn't occur.

It depends on your definition of invasion, apparently. It wasn't like the invasion of Poland by the Third Reich and the Soviet Union at all, for example. I think we can all agree that the main events of 1939 were very much invasions. What the Soviets did in Afghanistan was not that different from what the Americans did in Vietnam, really.

Weird how old armory buildings are so pretty.

Don't forget the global warming, cows contribute to that process immensely with their uncanny superpower of methane manufacturing.

If you do not like winter, move south. Seriously, your reason for supporting global warming, and the international destabilization that is going to be the inevitable result of said process, is an extremely shallow one.

1. The schools seriously suck in the south. With the exception of a few districts here and there I wouldn't let my kids go to school south of maryland. colleges are a different matter there are some very good colleges in the south.

2. I am working on increasing capacity of the largest urban trasport system in the americas. No matter how many cows I support, 2 more trains an hour wipes out anything I can do to heat the globe.

Why the hatred for certain schools? I was 49th in state funding for my school system an came out decent.
