Generally when you get paid you have money for gas.
If you can't afford to get to work, how are you going to afford to get to college?
Trains are better, but buses work too.

I don't have the money to get gas. Going around in a car for two weeks without enough money for gas is bad.
I don't trust busses. Busses have either been always late for me or I'm late for them.
