But I'll assume yes in a fight or fall situation simply to provide an answer. If you're going to die anyway why would you wait around for it. Go down fighting at least your last moments would be an act of defiance instead of meaningless acceptance.

I meant it in that sense. They had no chance of victory, their belief in victory changed that. It's about being able to deal and function when staring your certain death in the face. Creating hope out of willpower alone.
